Yes, I remember that Roger had something to do with Renee's death but was never brought to trial (Santo Domingo, much?)...I never saw Renee's death, though (I missed that episode), but I totally recognized her as Ivy Pierce/Brenda Lowery (also written off when Doug Marland left)

that is the kind of thing that I think drives any TV program into chaos behind the scenes. Instead of the producer wanting to increase the ratings, using unrealistic goals in hindsight, the producer should have been happy with the strong ratings it had and if ratings grew, wonderful, but if they remained steady even better. The mammoth GH ratings you write about is a perfect example. GL and ATWT often flip-flopped from #4 and #3 routinely and GH and Y&R flip-flopped from #2 and #1.

So this was just a few weeks before Carrie was written off...I honestly felt that by this point, the Carrie story had become a little cartoony, but this was to wrap up her storyline and get her the hell out of Springfield (very abrupt, I might add)

Something about the ratings dropping at this time, if I remember correctly, and if you remember, the Carrie story did not last long.Carrie came as Arts Graphics or something, fell in love with Ross, confessed to murder, tried suicide, went on trial, married Ross, then started having EVEN more blackouts until it was revealed that she had alternates, all within 1 year! How her co-stars were jealous is news to me. I don't know who you are, but you are amazing with your history!

Yes, when I started watching (at age 10), Renee DuBois was on the scene, but died in a fall down a flight of stairs. I had never heard of anyone dying from a fall down a flight of stairs before. My introduction to the world of soap deaths...

It's interesting that two years after his "death" that Roger was still being referenced in the show...and that priceless look from Mike when Alan mentioned the name over the phone.
