Soloing on a glacier with a fresh coating of snow to hide crevasses is a bold move lol

Agreed. I punched through a snow bridge on Glacier Peak. I was on a rope team and very happy about that fact.

"Trailrunner types" with their minimal gear scare me out in the mountains. I wonder sometimes how many actually have the skills and knowledge to do what they're doing and if something goes bad, self-rescue. But I guess these days you just need to press a button to get bailed out.

@@hefnhef1 Is there anything else I can do for safety being solo? Check out the Ptarmigan traverse video if you need proof I know how to be in a rope team!

It's always a good feeling when the sun finally comes up. Solid work on doing this peak in a day! I've looked at doing Mt Olympus in a day, seems pretty tough by doable if the weather and conditions are right.

Thanks! When I saw the sign that said 17 miles to Glacier Meadows, I think I got a little intimidated

I tried glacier peak the weekend before, on the 19th and 20th. We got some rain, and snow, and didn't have glacier gear. With rain and snow coming down we decided to turn back about 1.5 miles (standard route) from the peak. Glad at least someone benefited from that storm that came in!

I remember my first time climbing Mt. Baker... We roped up and did the Easton... There was one crevasse we saw that was greater than 12" wide, most were cracks like 6", made for easy glissading on the way back.

@@wannabepro7 In September of 2010, I broke through to my chest on the Muir Snowfield just below Anvil Rock on Rainier... After that, the climbing staff put out their little sign... beware of crevasses on the Muir snowfield... My backpack wedged in and kept me from going for the big ride...

A couple years ago I read about a group of 3 or 4 guys who did it in a day... Had a friend who snuck off with his wife and did it in 2 days. It is still on my bucket list...

Wow ! 12 hours great job! I did solo in 15 and a half hours and was exhausted. In the scramble section and then the summit section there was no snow at all and got some loose rocks

Having soloed this last September with no snow I'm not sure what made me more nervous, the thought of going up/down Disappointment in snow or glacier travel with a fresh coat of powder hiding the crevasses. Admittedly, I assume they were less melted out than last year just going off the snow cover I could still see late this summer near the summit.

What Salomon pack is that? Does it carry an ice axe and crampons well? What length axe do you have? Would you be worried about poking yourself if you fell on your back in some choss or something? Also, hugely impressive effort here, great job. But please reconsider soloing glaciers like this in the future. I know you already know the risks, but read about Jake Robinson who died near there in an unroped fall into a moulin below Kololo Peak.
@wannabepro74 ай бұрын
@@hanz_zimmer Appreciate the kind words and letting me know about Jake. I definitely knew the risk, but it's also difficult to turn around on an objective you've come so far to get to (I need to work on this). Not planning on doing solo glacier travel in the future in conditions like these, I've certainly learned my lesson. I use the BD Distance 15 Pack which held everything
