This was my mom's favorite movie. It was the first ever "adult" movie I was allowed to watch. We watched it so many times together when I was little. She passed away a few weeks ago after battling cancer a second time. The title and vibes of this song fit so perfectly with how I feel. I'm sad she's gone but I'm glad she's free of her cancer pains and is in a better place Edit (6/30/22): Thank you to everyone for the kind words. I have never, ever been prouder in my life, and I can tell you that I probably never will be again. I honoured my gladiator; my hero. Like Maximus, his fight was over only after he lived long enough to ensure everything was okay for his family. To any of you reading this, you need not a moment exactly like mine to show you what really matters in life, just keep your heart and eyes open for what that may look like for you. And 10/10! it doesn't matter if the events didn't happened historically. we reward this poetry by it's qualities that may give to a crowd who seeks scepticism and different angles of views to one's own life! same as the 'braveheart'(1995) and 'the last samurai'(2003). One of the movies shows us how a free individual is and the other tells us that in the end for a hero it doesn't matter how he dies ''I'll tell you how he lived'' .

My mother passed away last month after 50 happy years on Earth, she was the victim of a bicycle accident 3 years ago and was in a coma up till now. Gladiator was one of her favorite movies and the scene when Maximus walks across the field to join his family never failed to make her cry even after countless rewatches over the years. This song is just too good and it will be played as the final song for her funeral as she takes her final trip across the fields. Everytime I listen to it I get all warm and happy and I can feel her presence somehow. It is a sad song but it is also hopeful, it gives me hope that I will one day see her again when it’s my turn to walk across the fields...but not yet, not yet.

After reading the comments, I don't think you good people have the right idea. This isn't a song about the end, or about grief, or loss. It's about victory. It's about being free. In the end of all things, we cast off the chains of what held us back. We are free. No one binds us, nothing holds us. We learn that our only limitations are that which we set for ourselves. Turn your sails to the wind, ride the Great Waters, and fly. Only in death does duty end, and it's not your time yet. Ride the wind, sail the ocean, and fly. Then you will be free.

I cried a lot today, but it feels good to release it. My father passed away last month due to dementia at the age of 70. Until his last breath he fought against this hell of a sickness like a warrior. He no longer could talk due to a stroke, but his eyes were following our voices and movements constantly until the end, when we lied at his deathbed. More than 10 years ago, he showed me and my brother this masterpiece Gladiator and I will never forget those moments with this beautiful music. It always reminds me of him, my hero. I love you dad and we will meet us again, but not yet, not yet. ❤

How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. When my mum passed and I was at her funeral, this song went through my head constantly, at the end of the funeral I stood by her coffin and quietly (or so I thought) said to myself "I will see you again, but not yet, not yet" turns out my dad heard me and laid his hand on my shoulder and just sadly smiled at me, its a moment between me and him I will never forget, those we love never truly leave us, they stay in our hearts and we carry them with us, always, I am not embarrassed to cry when I hear this song, it reminds me that life can be short and we will see our loved ones again, some day, till that day however, I will be the very best I can be and join them with pride and happiness.
