The beauty of a perfect effect is to blend in with the story and characters and never overwhelm them, only compliment them. And this did it perfectly.

The effects in "Hollow Man" were excellent and for the most part hold up, but the effects in "Gladiator" weren't just recreating the colosseum. They also recreated Oliver Reed after he died during filming by using different shots. Gladiator deserved this Oscar

In oliver's scene that only lasted about two minutes they actually sampled an already filmed scenes in addition to some light effects so we can't say that was a literally cji But in Holloman they created a real life 3d version from the inside out of both kevin bacon n the gorilla, also bacon was invisible for most of the movie and for 2000's this was truuuuly magic

@@Hisham-oo6 @Hisham-oo6 First off, don't call me "boy". Secondly, the award is not just based on what film has the flashier effects. Many times a film wins because of how well the effects integrate into the scene. A real good effect is one you don't notice. That's what happened with Gladiator. Composite shots of the tigers, adding smoke trails from flaming arrows, and even extending the range of those flaming arrows are all visual effects that go unnoticed because of how well they were done. It's not just about how much CGI there is. Third, your analysis of what they did with Reed woefully underestimates what they actually did. They weren't just composite shots with different lighting. They took a digital version of his head and face and put it onto a live-action body double and then matched the lighting of the respective scene. That had not really been done before that. A similar thing was done for Brandon Lee in "The Crow" but it was not to the same extent. This wasn't a representation of his features the way it was with Kevin Bacon in "Hollow Man", but they were his actual features and, again, those shots weren't JUST composite shots with different lighting. As I said, the effects in "Hollow Man" are very impressive but they don't hold a candle to the effects you don't notice are effects in "Gladiator".
