Thanks a lot man! This was super helpful. I'm kind of a bigginer, I started playing tennis three months ago after playing 2 years of padel, finally I was ready to swithc to the big boys sport jaja, but yeah I've been doing a lot of research and everything you said makes sense compared to what I read plus you synthesize it perfectly to cover all the topics. I curretly owe a Head Radical Pro 310gr, 98 inches. It's heavy and really balanced to the hand. I got used to it for a while so now that I'm looking for a new racket I tend to like the heaviest ones even though I'm a bigginer. In terms of string pattern I believe I'm, more aimed to choose more strings to gain more control, I think that after using my old heavy racket I'm used to the stiffness so I hope it won't be a problem. Thanks for everything! Btw, do you know a good strore that lets you try the rackets? I live in Queretaro, Mexico and unfortanally there is no place like that here but I'm willing to travel just to make the right pick! Jajaja

In Norway we don't really have access to demoprograms unless you live in the capital, sadly. So kind of have to buy the sticks. With some solid research watching/reading reviews from you, Tennisnerd, Tenncom and Rackets and runners I've managed to get some sticks that are all very good rackets. Yonex Ezone100, Vcore100, Ezone DR98, Tecnifibre Tempo298 Iga, Wilson Pro Staff 97 v13(best looking racket), Wilson Blade v8 100, Furi Arma Pro 98 (had to import from USA). One tennisshop in Norway did a heavy discount on the day of Båstad Final, so the brand new Head Extreme MP 2024 was up for grabs for 148 euro incl shipping! I might have ordered that...

Thank you so much for the great video!! I played for many years when I was younger, pretty powerful and good at top spin, and want to get back into the game by getting an intermediate to advanced racket. I don't necessarily need a lot of power, but rather control and feel, so I think the Wilson Blade could work. Would a setup like the Blade 100 (for a bigger sweet spot), with 16x19 stringa be a good choice? Alternatively I could go for the Blade 98 with the 18x20 strings. I don't want a racket that makes me sacrifice too much power but I also want to make sure I increase the control and feel because I think that's what going to get me to the next level.
@michaelingram25494 ай бұрын
String choice can almost always enhance spin and/or power. Used v-square and ultra cable in a PB 10 mid and the ball had tremendous bite. Dropped tension into upper 40s with hex+38 and had power to spare.

I appreciate the effort to help consumers find the best racket for their game. However, this is a good example of the disconnect between people who have knowledge of how a racket's specs affect its performance, and the professional players who use these rackets on the tour. Although the pros can explain what works for them, I've seen too many struggle to explain how it actually works for the lay person. While I agree with some of what was covered, there is quite a bit that I disagree with, and a couple of things that are just not true. Control and Feel do not have to be mutually exclusive with Power and Spin, especially not with the market we have today. The rackets used as examples already contradict what was said in this segment. The Pure Strike - assuming that was the 16x19 - has similar power levels to the Speed MP; it just goes about it in a different way. One could also argue that the Speed MP has better feel than the Pure Strike, or most Babolat rackets, unfortunately. A lot of rackets these days do a decent job of trying to bridge the gaps between all four, like the Percept 100, or the aforementioned Speed MP. Additionally, a larger headsize does not make a racket less stable. I think this is a misconception that came about from companies selling rackets in larger headsizes (over 100 inches) exclusively in lighter weights. At the same weight, a larger headsize might actually help with stability, but even that is not always the case. To be more specific, it would help with torsional stability, which helps the racket twist less on off-center contact. We'd be getting into the weeds here, but larger headsizes tend to have higher twistweights than smaller headsizes. Rackets with smaller headsizes might feel more stable to advanced players because those rackets also tend to be heavier. The simplest way to explain swingweight while also trying to sound smart is how much of the racket's mass is closer or farther away from the handle. The swingweight of a racket is not necessarily a combination of the weight and balance; two rackets with the same weight and balance can have significantly different swingweights. What I always suggest to players is that they use highest swingweight they possibly can that would not exhaust them over a full match, or that wouldn't have a significant impact on how they swing their racket. This is the spec that influences power more than a racket's string pattern, or headsize. If you can handle it, there's no reason you shouldn't use it. I mean no disrespect with my comments. I appreciate the work done on this channel to help people get a little more insight into the world of Tennis that we otherwise wouldn't be able to see. Moreso than that, I really appreciate a pro player's input on new rackets coming to the market with your reviews. I just wanted to clear some things up for people who might watch this video and are looking to buy a new racket. Despite playtesting a ton of rackets, I think the reason you you haven't been made aware of some of this stuff is because you've been too busy playing Tennis at the professional level. So busy, in fact, that it looks like you're not so sure of your own racket's specs. I think that it's just harder for professional players to explain how something works to us mortals because they focus more on what works for them, even if it doesn't necessarily line up with how it actually works. Exceptions are made for the exceptional, and your Tennis is definitely exceptional.
@sebastiandomagala92334 ай бұрын
There is a small selection of racquets that feature all categories (control, feel, power, spin) at the same level. I would say that Ezone, Phantom and Blade 104 are right in between everything. Maybe a few more like PA 98 or a Radical as well. Depends on where you would place an average performance. Selecting a racquet is also way easier than you might think. Just get a Pure Drive, shoot holes in the fence, change to something proper like a Percept 100D and there you go.

Great explanations for understanding character of a racket.. but is there any way to get the ideal string's tension based on racket's stiffness and weight?
@thomasrebotier17414 ай бұрын
What do you think of the extended frames? Besides adding a lot of swing weight, is there any advantage (e.g. serving height). Also, it's interesting that the racquet trade off is between control/feel vs. power/spin, because with string type and tension you kinda go along a perpendicular axis, low tension = feel+power+spin, high tension = control. So you could get a small head low string pattern racquet and understring it to compensate the loss of power, or conversely get a large head racquet because you want a big sweetspot and more power, but use slightly above spec tension to keep the balls in...

Just be careful of doubling down on to much of one, you can get a 100sq in racket that has some control, like the pure strike. But doing a 95 sq in head and an 18x20 is not going to mean ultimate control, its going to mean basically no sweet spot and a very very low power racket. Unless you are a pro and really can make use of timing and technique stick with 97 to 100 sq and just learn how to hit with the racket you get. DON'T BUY INTO THE MARKETING its very rarely true, all of them say ULTIMATE SPIN FEEL POWER and CONTROL. Which as Grisha said, isn't really possible.

Alot of the fancy equiptmen can be done on the kitchen table. good enough for matching rackets. Balance and weight you can get from balancing on edge on kitchen table and if you have a meassuring tape and a kitchen scale. String tension you can buy a stringmeter. about the only thing you cant do at home is meassure stiffness of the racket. But you can do that too by hanging kilos in the handle and fix top and see how much the racket needs of weight to bend 1 cm After stringing the racket is 2-3 points less stiff.

I remember going through rackets and testing some of the higher end ones, and some of the most loved ones feel horrible to me, vibration all the way down. Absolutely no need to put up with that nonsense.

It has explained many things but not make it any easier for deciding what racket to go for.

So. This is not the whole truth. Maybe about half the truth. There are 95's and 97's with bigger sweetspot and more spin and that have more power and spin than some 100".... It's more a matter of string pattern/ how big spacing there is between the strings and how big the squares are in the sweetspot/sweetzone. I can also find 102's with more control than some 98's Again string spacing and size of squares in middle are very important. Also a heavier racket can be more whippy and easier to manage than a light racket with alot of head heavy ballance. What is also not mentioned is beam width and lenght. String tension and choice are about 50 % of the rackets playability.

10 times out of 10 it’s a skill issue not the racket

Incorrect, play with a small and light child racket and tell me how you play. 😂 skill also wont win you games with the wrong equipment. You need a balance of both, but slightly more skill.

@@RR-ss1tj would a top 50 player beat you with a child racket?

again too much focus on static weight. How heavy a racket is to swing has not much to do with static weight, but more related to swing weight which is a measure for how much effort it takes to accelerate or deccelerate the racket. A lower balance can make it feel easier but that is because of the increased manouverability with a lower mass center. Static weight is the measure on how the racket is pulled towards the ground. is there a correlation between swing weight and static weight? partly yes, but that is not a guarantee. There are many rackets that are lower on static weight which have a higher swing weight than other rackets that are higher on static weight combined with a lower swing weight.
