'Every picture tells a story.' The picture that stands out for me in this collection is the City Chambers work room at 1320. Those poor young women! What a drab and soulless existence they must have endured in their daily working lives. Were they allowed any social interaction? Was there ever even a bunch of flowers to brighten up the bleak room in which they laboured? Had they failed to find a husband and were they obliged to survive on their own, becoming in due course elderly spinsters? It does seems a very sad photo.
