I really enjoyed this video and found it very interesting but I'll be sticking with my old diesel van and here's why. I'm a cabinet maker and a few weeks ago I delievered a large display cabinet from my workshop in Nottingham to a tiny village around 40 miles north of Inverness, a distance of 470 miles, or thereabouts (the round trip was 947 miles) I set off at 11.30pm on the Wednesday night with a full tank (57lts) of diesel and after driving through the night arrived at the customers house at 7.45am the following morning, I had about 90 miles of range left according to the trip computer. After doing about 50 miles of the return journey, I filled up, and when I got back to Nottingham I still had around 170 miles of range left. My fill up took about 5 or 6 minutes or so at the pump and paying in the shop. Now I know that it cost me more in fuel than it would Lee with his electric Porsche, but I had no faffing about waiting around or searching for a charging point, didn't have to stay in a hotel overnight so saved that expense, and my journey was about 100 miles further than Lee's. For the record, my van is a VW Caddy 1.9TDi and is a 54 plate so it's 18 years old. I bought it brand new in 2004 and It's now got just over 236000 on the clock and still going strong. I reckon that because I've kept my van all these years and not replaced it with a new one two or three times over that my van is actually greener than Lee's Porsche or any electric car for that matter as no energy has been used to build me a new van or vans. I'm not having a dig at Lee's Porsche btw, I think it's an amazing car, looks stunning and I'm sure the engineering and performance is top notch, but for the reasons above, I prefer my old diesel van. Keep up the great work Lee, love your channel mate.

even if there was millions of chargers that charged in seconds it still seams a lot of hassle. I drove from Oxford to Switzerland in our california on one tank of fuel. that's with air con on and 2 beds 2 bikes food kitchen stuff clothes cameras bbq . don't understand the panic to get in an electric car. great vid maybe keep a desperate dan pie in the glove box for emergencies.

Fun fact - at 55:50 on the right hand side of that roundabout, just out of frame is a street that holds the Guinness World Record for the shortest street, at just one door width long, Ebenezer Place. My grandparents live in Wick and my family would drive there every summer for our holiday, it’s so interesting hearing an outsider’s perspective about the beautiful views etc, we didn’t think twice about it. It’s a beautiful part of the country where everyone knows each other, very community driven, totally different to the city lifestyle, lovely place for a relaxing holiday focused on family time!

We are having a heat wave now; shame you missed it. The accident rate on the A9 was horrific before the speed cameras. For everyone's info Currently, there are 30 chargers accessible to the public, with ongoing installations to implement many more. Part of these ongoing installations includes Electric A9 sites at Broxden Park & Ride, Auchterarder, Dunkeld & Pitlochry.

Think it's easier if you have local knowledge or plan in advance, just done 1000 mile round trip to Skegness, was fine, only issue was queue at chargers, but wasn't in a hurry anyway, think you need to chill a bit,the infrastructure is improving.Loved your walkabouts though,Scotland is an amazing place, for me the variety in climate/temperature is a good thing, couldn't handle heat all the time, keep up the vidz 👍

Great video, loved it, but I couldn't be arsed with the uncertainty of finding a charging point that works, too much unwanted stress and worry for me. I'll never have an all electric car for this reason. I've always said that until the availability and reliability of charging ponts are improved, I would go with a self charging hybrid car if I were to switch from petrol, no worry there I suppose. As it is, and as I do very little mileage, I will stick with my little ecnomical 1200cc car. I'd give up my car before going all electric. Looking forward to you doing the Lands End trip and seeing how that goes.

Brought myself a Yaris Cross Hybrid self charging but of course this car uses a petrol engine to charge the battery but at least I don’t have to worry about range anxiety or where the next charging point is, I just rock up to a petrol station and within 5 min tops I’m away again on my way. I do agree with you battery only cars are great cars and tech inside them are fantastic but without the charging infrastructure EV cars are a dead duck.

Hi Lee, thanks for highlighting the stress of driving an electric vehicle long distance. I sent you a tweet before informing you about the stealth charge they are going to introduce to charge an electric vehicle at peak times. I genuinely don’t think that the electric charge network will be fit for purpose for at least 10 years, in the meantime I’ll keep my 2018 Astra diesel which takes two minutes to fill up and will do 750 miles on a full tank! Great vid by the way. Take care and stay safe, Dave

The summer up here in Scotlandshire just means the rain is a little warmer Interesting viewing btw, watched one of your last uploads advising people not to buy EV, all the points you mentioned I've thought the very same, lost count how many times I've spoke to someone about the flaws with the biggest being in today's world electric or not people still want INSTANT! EV world slows everyone and everything down and many people haven't worked that out, even all this new cashless world frustrates the hell out me, I've walked out of Burger King in the past cos they were only taking card payments and I despise all these new giant sized self service menus, I'm 53 year of age so most of my life has been CASH! Some people love all this new world but plenty of us don't, we're not trained to deal with this new world and because of our age group we are also a bit stuck in our ways now. I prefer OFF and ON - Not go into the settings menu, OFF & ON!!

When we go up it takes 30 minutes to reach Tesco or Morrisons! You go to villages like Alson and it’s bizarre how there’s you know there’s civilisation but it’s so quiet. And the internet service is extremely slow. There’s no denying Scotlands beauty.and really get the most stunning views indeed. I live in a terraced street where there's no chance of parking anywhere near my house, sometimes it's 3 streets away. Can you imagine the tangle of cables running round the town? The answer of course, when forced to have an EV is to invest in a trailer mounted diesel generator to tow behind. I also believe its all a con. Add together the cost of scrapping usable vehicles, the carbon footprint of mining lithium, building a new vehicle, cost of said vehicle & generating electricity - someone's making a fortune ! It's taken 100 years to develop the high efficiency diesel engine, just develop a clean fuel we can adapt existing cars to run on ffs!

Welcome to my world as I live in Wick. The houses in the countryside are because a lot of people work offshore so build houses where ever the land is available while others are bought by people as holiday homes. The chip shop you are looking to try on the way down again is The Trawler in Golspie and well worth the stop. In the far north EV's are just not a practical option as a drive for me to the main city (Inverness) is a 200+ round trip and a 5 hour drive with an ICE vehicle.

But I hate to be negative when it comes to electric cars but I really enjoy driving a vehicle and riding a motorcycle with a nice sound to it, I’m all about very minimal stress too, driving is stressful enough without worrying about the next charge. On the other hand I do walk or cycle a lot, this is purely to help with fitness and the environment,so I do my bit. The day I’m forced into EV I will certainly think about not owning a car.

Lee, Turnberry to Alness took you around 8 hours in the EV, AA maps says it is 242 miles and should take 4 hrs 33 mins, Even allowing for some filming this video shows why I am not into buying an EV. Enjoy the trip south, what could possibly happen? :)

Do not forget that there are oil executives who work in the oil and gas sector/ industry in Scotland. They are most likely the owners of some of those big houses that you passed and wondered where the owners worked. Some could be owned by wealthy businessmen who want to live 'far from the madding crowd' as they say, away from close proximity to other people.

Actually not now bothered about the main theme of these vlogs, ie. ev's, range, chargers or none as case may be, these videos are so entertaining, next best thing from being there in beautiful Scotland.

At Last!!! Thank You Anthony. It’s not about the food. It’s about the journey, the sights and the adventure. It’s not about the food or the EV. It’s just about having a bit of fun and exploring. :0) Lot’s more places to come.

Thankyou, Lee - I believe? Look forward to more of your vlogs, I'm in Bournemouth, always go for a drink and meal with you if you're down here. But not sure if I should put my number up on here? None the less, although your vlogs are very interesting, like being there, don't think I'll buy an electric car, not until the charging system and range of the cars improve. Couple of years ago drove my Caterham from here, B'mth, to the Black Isle, north of Inverness and some 660 miles distant, overnight with just two or three fuel stops, arriving at a lovely B&B overlooking the Cromarty Firth, beautiful area. No stress of course about charging just quick pit stops for fuel. Love your videos anyway.

@@TheMacMaster Thanks for that. The car that went past you when you were parked up and near John 'o Groats was yes, possibly a Westfield, or perhaps, more likely, because I would think there is more of them, a Caterham, similar to mine, but probably not exactly the same, (difficult to say because of the speed), which is a blue 7/160. The Lotus 7 was designed by Colin Chapman in the 50's whose motto was 'add in ligtness' (or similar). I can hold the entire bonnet up with my fore finger for instance, very fun cars to drive.

Why don't you take a hot food flask, eat and drink your own wholesome food whilst waiting for the milk float to charge, instead of paying those extortionate prices at these service stations? £3.50 for a coffee at the service station. I pay 80p for a whole jar of instant at Asda. Fill a flask of milky hot coffee and take it with me when i travel. Do the maths.

My Advice Lee is to get rid of the electric car and go back to fuel, its a lot easier.

electric chargers are available in most of the major towns in Scotland but the further north and off the beaten track you go the more you`ll struggle.....also as shown with charging apps....phone signal is a problem in a lot of northern Scotland
