When I seen you were leaving the cycle route for the Auchentiber Road I thought Oh naw!! I went this way once. And never again. And I was on my mountain bike. Now if I go this way to Largs I just drop down and take the Esplanade and Shore Road. But that wouldn't be possible for you on such a late start. Brilliant video. Really enjoyed it.

The amount of swearing that I had to cut from that part 😂 next time I will leave earlier and go the esplanade way 😁

Enjoyed that! Nice mix of drone footage, route information and historical details. I’m amazed you didn’t puncture going along the really rough sections. Look forward to next one 👍

Excellent video Charles. You're a brave man taking on the Auchentiber to Loch Thom road in March. I did it last summer having ridden up the NCR 7 from Kilbirnie. Nice info-piece on the "The Lost 17". I've passed them a few times and (shame on me!) often wondered what they were about!?. Now I know. Thank you.

What a wonderful sunset, I hope you got chips & a hassle free train journey after that route. Always fun to see a mixture of routes I know & ones I dont. I love the Gourock run in the summer, only got as far as Inverkip that way before running out of daylight a couple of summers back. It’s also fun to see what a different route you take to get to Pollok park, there’s clearly a wee bit more cycle infrastructure popped up on the south side. I’m just in Garnethill & that cycle route down Sauchiehall st gets journeys south off to a good start. Can’t wait for spring to do it’s thing & start trying to get out the city on the bike. Awesome video as always, I look forward to the next one.

The train journey was hassle free. Think getting it at half six helped me miss the madness. I’m really looking forward to better weather ahead.

Oh goodie you’ve just pointed out a “road” I’ve not done. I’ve never done that Auchentiber road or along past the Gryffe Reservoir so I’ll be getting on to that! Thanks for sharing.

Yes I will do, it’s wearing 47’s. I think the MTB would be overkill though it’s better at coping with the beach on the way back along the costal trail.

Inspired by this video I did the exact same route over to Largs. Stunning scenery, great climbs and then that rough section of road! Well done on getting over that on a road bike, I had a tourer with 38c gravel tyres and it was still a challenge 😂 Love your videos, keep up the great work.

That rough track between Garshangan and Dowries farm used to be driveable by car forty years ago. The road around Loch Thom and then on to Largs is a special run on a bike. Done this route many times with my old pop who loved that area.

One of my favourite training routes is paisley past lochwinnoch to west kilbride, then follow the coast north, stop at largs, carry on following the coast to port glasgow and greenock then back on the cycle track you went down past bridge of weir and back to johnstone and home. Between 60 and 70 miles, sometimes i go atraight to largs, sometimes i will take the bypass that goes straight to greenock from coast bypassing port glasgow. Beautiful ride in summer.

Nice timing for the sunset. That track by the Gryffe Reservoir canget really bad at certain times, gravel tyres help. The only alternative, from Kilmalcolm, is to go all the way into Greenock, which means a real hillclimb out.

Cracking ride! I know it well. I took my road bike down that forest track one time: never again! But I'm planning on trying it again on the gravel bike. Really interesting bit of history about the Paisley Canal railway line.

Love Largs. Such a nice wee place. Wouldn’t mind doing that journey myself. Fantastic video, very informative. Heart skipped when that car came at you on the single track. Also hope you don’t mind me asking, what app are you using when your phone is in its mount?

Thanks hopefully I can do that again when the weather is better. That car did come out of nowhere and I was 100% convinced I could see everything that was ahead of me. Was really enjoying my cycle at that point. That was google maps I was using.
