So basically the woman and the man were drifting apart. They don't spend time together, which they showed through the different rooms/dinner tray. The man looked to the TV for comfort and the woman the dog. When the TV started messing up, the old man saw a video of them dancing when they were younger. The woman saw him upstairs, and he turned into the dog because it shows how over time she went to the dog instead of her partner. Then they realized they missed each other And yeah she fell through the ceiling breaking the barrier between them!

In my opinion; it's all metaphorical. There is no basement, there is no divided house, and there is no dog. Obviously, the top of the house represents the woman and the basement represents the man. The man's television is like the woman's dog. They both don't ACTUALLY exist. The man's television represents his mind, and the dog represents the woman's. At first, the two were separate. They were both happy. The man was smiling and the woman was smiling. The woman gave him food, showing that they weren't totally divided. Later on in the relationship when the dog eats the remote, she begins to control him. When the dog does tricks and jumping through hoops, the television changes channels. The woman is happy but the man is not. In order for the woman to be happy, her dog must be doing tricks, which hurts the man. His mental state gets poorer and poorer because this woman is controlling him. The man begins to notice what the woman is doing. He sees the traces of her in his distress (the dogs fur.) When he begins to fight back, memories of their love stops him. He doesn't WANT to leave because he loves her. When the woman has the vision of the man, she is visibly enthralled. She is humanizing him. But he turns into her dog again, and that humanization is gone. She continues to ruin the relationship by abusing him. He runs from the tv because he is running from his mind. When the man uses the slingshot, it is representing how he is getting through to her. Destroying her perfect view of the world. When she falls through the floor, it's like her realization. When the dog vomits the remote, she is giving up control. Without control, they can be happy.

WHAT I THINK: the lady and the man used to love each other hence the tape on the TV. However, when the old lady went crazy (signified when she puts his dinner in a school dinner tray and down the hatch) he moved into the basement where he lives a dark and moody life because he loves her. She probably didn’t remember him as her lover - more of a house guest - and got herself a dog (common behaviour when your husband dies at a very old age), which explains the close relationship between her and her dog. However the dog acknowledged the man and their past relationship (I don’t know how though because the dog seems very young or is that because of my lack of knowledge on dogs), and took the old man's only form of entertainment - the TV remote that controls the TV (durh) which he seems very pleased by suggesting he has had little happiness in his life. Every time the dog jumps the channel jumps which suggests that he is a key figure in their relationship as he is the only one who visits them both. He then comes to the realisation that the dog took the remote it and starts to bang the wall to wake them woman up for her transient state and succeeds by similarly making the track change via every bang. They are both reminded of their younger years as the dog somehow gets an old tape to play of them dancing (in colour which is weird as they both seem very old - or is it them?). Similarly, the woman is visited by a dancing dog dressed up in her ‘previous’ lovers clothes (according to the tape) signifying that the dog replaced her husband. The TV then seems to gain life and makes the old man scared as it chases him to behind a chair portraying that he may be scared of the woman due to her illness or because of her changed personality. He responds by catapulting something to the TV in order to make it stop as he may have put those memories away in a corner as they are hard to think about. However, a hole forms and we are now introduced to the two spaces together and the old man takes advantage by destroying the things she possess and loves in order to make him love her as he now wants to rekindle the lost passion due to those unlocked memories. This then suggests a state of chaos in the household when they interact as the TV makes swift changes along with the tempo of the music - this leads to the climax of the old lady falling into his arms and love is once sought as he saved her. This is reconstructed on the channels as all the destruction caused has reversed to show that although destruction cannot be resolved in the real day, it can indeed lead to happier things. At the end we see the dog cough up the remote as it is no longer needed as they both have each other’s companionship (and a new TV (with a gold pineapple on top -how nifty) to help portray their rekindled love). Yes i did take time to write this (rather than doing lit homework) - no hate I am an A level Eng Lit student and I did Media at GCSE so I do a vague idea about I’m talking about (PS I FRICKING LOVE GA AND I AM GONNA SEE THEM NEXT THURSDAY, IM SO EXCITED I THINK IM GONNA PEE)

Here's mine although they're probably more now anyways~ The woman ( in early days ) was once together with the man shown ( they danced together in competitions ) but time took them apart and the only joy the woman found was in her dog then. Figured I’d share my interpretation of the music video. To me it seems like a metaphor for a couple experiencing Alzheimer’s. The rooms they’re in aren’t real, more so either what they’re imagining they live in or a representation of their minds. At the end of the video it looks like they’re in a totally different place and in different clothes, which to me means they’re actually in a senior living facility. They’re going through the motions of their lives and have largely forgotten one another. In the real world they sit and watch TV, sitting next to each other but not realizing the other is there. One day something disrupts their routine. I’d like to think that the song they danced to when they were young starts playing on the TV, since they both start reliving that memory and music is known to bring back memories in Alzheimer’s patients. For the man, the TV starts acting strange. He sees something that reminds him that there’s an “upstairs” (in the real world that there’s someone next to him) and starts banging on the ceiling (trying to break through his mental barriers). Then the TV starts playing a memory. He remembers his partner and them dancing together. For the woman, the banging affects the record she’s playing and she starts to see her partner dancing with like in the memory. Her mind still struggles to remember and she jumbles up the man with the dog until the man start fully breaking through the barrier between them. In the real world at the end, we see he reaches out his hand first. Then, as the woman falls through the floor and into his lap they are reunited, and she takes his hand in turn. It’s not perfect, obviously. They don’t look at each other at the end, they’re still suffering from Alzheimer’s and aren’t fully there. But they’ve reconnected with one other despite their memory loss. They may not fully remember each other, but they still love each other regardless. That’s what I got from the music video anyway :)
