Molds making papper clay more info 😊
I make my molds between 0.5 to 0.8 cm and a maximum of 1.0 cm thick
when they are finished shaped
they must dry really well for about 3 weeks
and the first week they must dry slowly under some plastic. It is to avoid that they crack.
When they are completely dry, they must be pre-annealed in a firing of at least 900 degrees and preferably 1200 degrees.
I have pre-annealed them in my glass kiln ( Skutt Kiln an Paragon kiln Max temp are 900degrees )with fine results😉
but has also had the help of a ceramist for large an thicker molds.
Firing schedule for papper clay before use for Glass:
1. 50˚for 600˚ hold for 5 min = 12 hours
2. 100˚ - 900˚ end = 2-3 hours
Let cool completely before opening.
It’s a long firing around 15 hours.
After they are anneald they must be kiln washed
before you put your glass on like all other molds.
Don't be afraid to try it out.
This is clearly an advantage that you can make your own shapes
with your own expression 👍🥰
and remember that by trying you find answers to most things.
and it is simpler to work with than you might immediately think.
when you work with paper clay it's like working with any other clay, but paper clay is just the best for glass.
It is something about the composition of the clay that makes it perfect for glass work.
