So, this instruction to start the oven cold and let it warm up with the piece inside is true for ALL situations in which you are decorating glass with polymer clay? I just want to be clear about this -- I was just about to start decorating a clay jar! :)

Yes This is the advice I would give for baking on glass of any type, just to be sure the glass does not accidentally shatter.

Hi Donna Shore, no I haven't done a video or tutorial on covering a glass vase in polymer clay canes, fully or partially. It sounds like a good one to add to the suggestion box though. I'll put some thought into it.

Just found this, Cindy and it was sooo helpful! There's only one thing that I wish someone would cover for me (everyone else probably already knows) and that is ... show how the glass ball is put into the oven. I have scoured KZbin looking but can't find anything on this. I have one of the regular clay ovens ... not big and doesn't have much of a high ceiling. Perhaps putting it on a bed of fiber-fill??

OK so love the tips! My question is relating to a polymer clay vase. First have you already done or will you do a pct studio clip on creating it (not the cane part)...just how to do a completely covered vase AND a partially covered vase. To see what differs in the making, designing, sculpting, and naming/cooling process.

This is great, glad I only nade 1 glass covered ornament. You said total baking from cold to cold oven is 1 hr, when the instructions on the polymer clay is 275* for each 1/4 inch of clay. I did it for 15 min. I also learned on a turorial I can bake, then add more clay to it, then bake again. Is that part correct? If so for how long?

Thank you for answering Cindy, very kind of you. What I meant is this: So I put on the oven at 110 degrees celsius more or less, then what should I do? I mean can I stick the clay on the jar and put it in the oven and cook for the 20 mins the clay needs and then pop the jar out? What I cannot understand is that if I heat the jar on its own and it ends again cold, then when should I attach clay on it directly? Thx again!

Thank you for this it was very helpful. I am very new to clay but plan on making some Christmas ornament gifts this year for my family. I saw one video on KZbin where she used like a cheap glass ornament that had like a varnish or they were painted silvery white and I just knew deep down this would be an issue if I got similar ones. I do not want toxic fumes in my home and I think putting varnished ornaments in the oven will be a problem. She did say the clay pops off after baking so to glue things on and I am curious... if I got some clear glass ornaments and painted ones (of the same/similar size) baked on the clear and then glued pieces on to the none clear, would this work?

Hi Cindy! I've watched this video but what I'm looking for is polymer clay on wine glasses...what I've gotten from several tutorials (other than wine glass tuts of course) is to make sure the clay is at least 1 inch from the opening of the glass and to wash by hand (no dishwasher). Frankly, the sources have not been the most authoritative and I would very much hearing from you. (See, you're my RELIABLE source!)

Hi Cindy! i have a question about baking acrylic painted cabochon covered in polymer clay in the oven. Is it safe to bake? I'm thinking about making a zoomed in section of animals' eyes using cabochon and cover it with polymer clay around it as the skin of the animal.
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 10 жыл бұрын
Hi ***** I am not totally sure what you mean but... If you talking about baking a polymer clay cabochon that has been painted with acrylics, it is safe to bake. But if you are talking about baking an acrylic cabochon (plastic gem), then it might melt in the oven. You should test bake an extra one, before adding it to a piece that you have put a lot of effort or supplies into, so you don't waste them.

Hi Vanora, yes, working with any glass item with polymer, the steps are the same. You need to start cold and end cold. I think the full tutorial would be helpful for you. It is an ornament , not a vase, but the steps are the same. For more info go to our blog (link above) and look for the Mistletoe Ornament Tutorial post on December 6th, 2012.

I experience cracks in the clay when I cover wine bottles, which happens later on, like after a few weeks. Using the cold oven and let it cool completely in oven. Also Premo at 1/8 inch. Should the clay be thicker, thinner? Other things to troubleshoot?

I would love to try and decorate glass vases and drinking glasses. Do you think I could try this method on those too? Perhaps stick the different things on the glass with fimo liquid?
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 10 жыл бұрын
Hi riechanster yes this method works well for all types of glass projects. Just make sure that the glass can handle the oven at the temp you need to bake the clay at. (Test first.) To learn more about adding polymer clay to glass the Glass Ball Mistletoe Ornament Tutorial will really help! Here's more info on that: www.beadvideos.com/video/vol-055-mistletoe-ornament-6-videos/

Hi Cindy if I put liquid polymer clay will it stick so that I can do a Santa or an Angele on the balls . And how about these mug I see on Pinterest that have little dolls or teddy bears in front., will they keep there place with liquid polymer clay after a soap wash or will they fall out
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 5 жыл бұрын
Liquid clay probably won't be enough to stick the clay permanently to glass ornaments or coffee mugs. I usually design my clay in a way that doesn't need glue, when adding to clear glass, but I have heard of people using clear construction silicone adhesive (a tiny amount) to glue clay onto clear glass. I haven't tested that yet, but I think that would be worth trying. With the mugs I would use Gorilla Glue White, 2 part epoxy or the silicone, if it works. Definitely test on your own projects though, to make sure it will work for you. Good luck!

I have a question. When you said that you put the glass ball in the oven and let it warm...and then bake for one hour...and then cool...is that WITH the polymer clay ON the ball? Or before you put the clay on the ball?
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 11 жыл бұрын
Hi MHarrington8406 It is always good to test your ornaments first to see if they can handle the baking... So I would do one first without any clay to see if it will work. Then if it is fine, do the same thing, with the clay on the ball. Hope that clears things up!

Hi Cindy. Thank you for this informative video. I had no idea about that coating. I would like to ask you though.. I use Premo and in your video you said that you bake between 265 and 275. Does that mean I can bake my objects always at 265 instead of 275?? Will they cure like they would at 275? My oven stays steady at 265 and goes all over the place at 275. That would be great if I can just bake them at 265. Thanks! :-)
