I think the mall near me is dying, they're opening a family fun center and a gym in the former Macy's building, I'm pretty sure that's a sign of a dying mall!

This particular mall is owned by a management company notorious for dead malls, and overzealous security. Unless they were able to get permission (which is unlikely), I imagine they're trying to be discreet so security doesn't get on them & kick em out. Yes, some groups are that paranoid about pictures & video in malls.
