Such a wealth of information Peter! You are always so generous to share your preferred methods for mosaic novices & enthusiasts like myself. So many times I've embarked on a project and get disheartened half way through, when things aren't going right. Then I revisit your video and my problems are solved. Thank you. Every piece I have made, has been done with a different technique, tesserae & substrate to further my knowledge. All of them I learnt from you, including fixing my mistakes & finding my preferences. If I am interested in a new technique of mosaics, although excited I'm usually nervous until I go to Treasury Road Site. My new favourite journey is preparing for a happier retirement. Thanks to you! You are a great Aussie Ambassador for all genres of Mosaic Art..

I consider myself an apprentice because I am continually learning and will continually do so like everyone. Thanks you once again and I look forward to seeing what you create. I am in a number of Mosaics groups especially Mosaics Australia Wide, join the group and post some pictures there if you would like. :)

I k know this video is a year old but I just love your clarity in speaking and getting to the point without a lot of fluff conversation which actually makes me lose focus on the subject! I am just starting to do a few pieces of glass on glass after having done one at Christmas, which had some problems because I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing. It’s very hard to find the Mac glass glue here in the US but I will continue to look for it. I really appreciate your teaching skills.

Thankyou very much Sherrill appreciate that. MAC glue is currently out of production for the time being because one of the ingredients used in it is no longer being sourced. They are working on a new formula. In the meantime consider using an Australian product called Prep MultiUse adhesive, you can find it on EBay. Also Marvelous Mosaics in the USA has a similar product. Thankyou for watching and for your lovely comment. 😊

Thank you for this very useful and well produced video, Pete! Another corker! My preference is Soudal Fixall Crystal Clear. My top tip with this glue is: always use a fresh can as it will haze once opened over time (old glue is still workable for adhering onto tessera but hazy old glue will show behind Glass Appliqué ) Make sure you butter the entire back of each tessera to avoid grout bleed Slide tessera into position so that it sucks into position. Stay fabulous Pete! 🧡🧡🧡

Thanks so much Caroline. Great tips but I haven't had the Soudal haze over on my GOG pieces and I have used it 6 months after opening. I’ve got almost an entire gal of Mac I haven’t used since I started using Prep! My favorite one is Prep because I has less issues with temperatures and it’s cheaper for me to order from Australia (including shipping) than to order Mac in the USA to be shipped to me in the US. The cost plus shipping for Mac is more expensive than Prep. I just feel more confident with Prep. My students do a lot of 3D GOG and Prep is what we’ve been using with much success.

Thankyou so much for the comment. Prep MultiUse adhesive is a great adhesive and is considerably cheaper than Mac. I find I enjoy using both however you are right Prep doesn't have the issues with the cold like Mac does. There are a number of people in the USA that purchase Prep from Australia and I think the list is growing. Thanks so much for watching. :)

Great video, love MAC glue and it’s pretty much all I use now! I tried silicone a couple times and I’m just so messy with it. Also went back to a vase I had started and left for a few months and peel the Tess off very easily as I wanted to use for something else, and I thought well, that’s no good! Maybe it was the wrong kind of silicone. However, when I make a mistake with MAC that Tess won’t come off for anything lol. You’ve sold me on the light box as well, looks like a must have for GoG. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us! X

Great tutorial!! Will definitely try your way. On my 1st piece I used an adhesive I found but as it doesn't have a fine tip I put a blob on the glass substrate and spread it with a small (artist) paint brush. Worked well...just hoping there's no grout bleed but I'm hoping to use something clear...if there is such a thing....in Canada. Trying to find the litikol epoxy grout here that you recommended. Looking forward to your pending video. It's an outdoor table so if you know of any other products I'm all ears. Is Mac glue suitable for outdoor pieces? I have so much to learn and your videos have become my go to. THANK YOU!

Thanks, this really helps. I realize I have been using too much glue. So, I have a problem with the MAC taking too long to dry. How can I speed up the process. Textured glass on glass.
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 5 ай бұрын
I think you have answered your own question, less is best with MAC glue. MAC is one of the quickest drying adhesives, keep your pieces small and if you are using textured glass make sure it’s totally flat on the side you are adhering down. I also like to have everything including the room at room temperature before working. That includes, MAC, the glass and the substrate. Using a light box under your GOG will also give off a gentle warmth which helps with curing. Generally the MAC glue on my GOG is clear by end of day or well on the way. Thanks for watching and for the comment. 😊

Have been away from my mosaicing for a while due to health concerns so am reviewing by watching your excellent videos! Thank you. Have you ever used Diamond Glaze on your gog? It has seemed to do as well as Mac for me.
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 6 ай бұрын
Thankyou very much Alison appreciate that. I haven't used Diamond Glaze because it can turn yellow especially on a GOG. Here is a snippet form the manufacture. Q: Does Diamond Glaze™ yellow over time? A: When applied in a thick layer or exposed to prolonged sunlight, it may yellow. I would probably look at another adhesive because of the possibility of it yellowing. Welcome back to mosaics, thankyou for watching and for your comment, I hope everything is fine now with your health. :)

Thankyou very much Cheryl, appreciate that. GOG is really great and you should be fine following my tips. The light that l used is a commercial one and was quite expensive so it’s a bit of an overkill for GOG. If you’re in Australia Merlin Mosaica sells light boxes, if you’re not then just Google them but it is a bit of a minefield out there. I will be producing a video on light boxes very soon to help choosing one. 😊

@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad Ай бұрын
Hi Catherine, I cant comment specifically about your job but generally speaking Prep is fine for GOG if the pieces are flat otherwise you would get grout bleed underneath them. Another alternative to look at is something like Soudal Fix All Crystal Clear which has more body to it, its similar to a silicon but doesn't have the solvents. You may also need to be careful of condensation within the window if its fully enclosed. :) Soudal is available online from Merlin Mosaica or from Mitre 10

Thankyou so much, it really comes down to the size of the mosaics you are making. A small A4 size can be moved around under the glass substrate if you cant afford a larger one but I would say an A3 size would be comfortable without being to small or large. :)

@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 2 жыл бұрын
Thankyou very much Brenda, I cant specifically comment on your job as there are always variables I cannot see. However the principles of ensuring no air bubbles and the base of the tess is completely covered to avoid grout bleed still applies. I use a paint brush to apply to the substrate when using silicone type products on a GOG. I cant comment on the curing time as there are different silicones and not all are equal, I really only use smallish pieces. You may want to have a look at Sue Smith Glass, she has a KZbin channel and is also on FB, her glass on mirror is stunning and she gives a lot of tips. She also has a FB mosaic group called Mosaic Connections. :)

Yes I love Mac as well. There isn't an easy way to remove the residue. If you still have a film on top after wiping the tess over with water as you go using Mac, then you need to change the cloth. If you have a long, narrow piece of glass, such as 3/8" wide by 3 1/2" long, is it better to apply the Mac Glue to the back of the glass rather than to the substrate?
@TreasuryRoad

I cant answer that Cindy because your environment over their is extremely harsh. I know Sue Smith uses silicone for her glass on mirror, she has been creating these for 20 years and she is based in the UK. Sue has a KZbin channel, Facebook page and group. I would be inclined to reach out the Sue and create a post in a couple of the Facebook Mosaic groups. This way you will be able to receive advice from others that are in the UK and doing outside GOG projects and may also be using Mac glue. I so much prefer Mac over silicone, I find it so much easier to use, however to the best of my knowledge Sue always uses silicone. :)

MAC Glue is no longer being made, the resin used in it is no longer being sourced so MAC are working on a new formula but no one knows when that will be released. You can use Prep MultiUse adhesive for GOG, its an Australian product but you can purchase it off Ebay or from Merlin Mosaica in Australia who ship internationally. If you are in the USA its quite cost effective to buy from Australia because of the $US being worth more. I consider MAC Glue to be the best for GOG but Prep is a good adhesive. E6000 is not a good product to use for GOG, because of its curing it can cause cracking of the glass. Also its quite toxic and gives off harmful fumes that you would constantly be breathing in. Its okay for small projects like jewellery but definitely not for Glass On Glass. A number of people use GE Silicone 2? for GOG in the USA, I haven't and its not available here in Australia maybe worth checking out. Thanks for watching Patty. :)

Prep is a good adhesive but I still consider MAC to be the best for Glass On Glass. I also use it as a general adhesive as well, its clearer, dries quicker and is waterproof when FULLY cured. I have used MAC glue for over 10 years, it was designed by an artist and it is a lot thinner than other adhesives but that's a plus for GOG. :)
