Happy I heard mushrooms right away. Growing kits are going to be huge.

I like seeing inside a headshop's techniques, though they could have talked more about glass. But like they said, they ask the customer--how many affordable spoons or mushroom mini recyclers does a glass artist have to sell to these shops to pay for their more expensive or avant-garde pieces? I guess it's the age-old question of how do artists function under this sales model?

How can I connect with glass blowers in UNY? I’d be wanting lab glassware made and would rather support a local artist than StonyLab/Laboy/etc

You should also ask one of the lab glass makers here on YT--some are posting more recently, but someone like Sally Prasch at UMASS might still be around.
