Definitely need glasses for reading/close-up, but why is it so comfortable wearing them full time rather than not (progressive lenses), even though my distance vision is 20/20?

I only truly noticed recently that the oakley sunglasses shift my left eye inward. They move letters ever so slightly inward. (astigmatism left eye only). I'm thinking they are acting like prism glasses given the information presented in the video. Probably explains the random headaches I get when going between the two.

@SluggishDuck4 ай бұрын
Many people refer to 'perfect' vision as '6/6' or '20/20' (US notation measured in feet), but this is not strictly true - these terms refer to 'average' vision. If you achieve a vision measurement of 6/6, this means that you can see at a distance of 6m what an average person also sees at the same distance.

Thank you so much! Blepharitis is very common and some people are more prone to getting it than others. Xdemvy is specifically for a certain type of blepharitis that is challenging to get rid of. But in my experience, Xdemvy works like a charm. For the other question, wavyness in the vision can occur for multiple reasons, from anything such as an unstable tear film to migraine headaches to more serious retinal conditions. I wish I could help more but this is something to ask a local doctor about so they can examine the eyes and give a diagnosis. Hope that helps.

This may only be true depending where you live in the world. I reminded the staff, doctor, & optician that they are required to provide me with the PD since I paid for an eye exam & a pair of eyeglasses. They still did not give it to me. People often are hungry for minus. Since minus usually boosts the contrast. rule of thumb would be to only correct with more minus: Sphere -> if visus gets better zylinder -> reduces ghosting and or blurriness which is kinda easy with the right usage of a cross cylinder
@Jan961064 ай бұрын
Is it possible for a cylinder to go from +1.75, axis 80 to +1.25 axis 70 in a year, and then a year later back to + 1.75, but with an axis at 70, or is it more likely one or both of the last two prescriptions are off? These are not done by professionals but by helpers who don't stay long at the practice. They are either part-time and/or temporary. Some are good. Some are terrible. If my axis is really 80 and off 10 degrees, will this cause vision problems or is my astigmatism low enough that it won't matter? (They did put it years ago at 90, and I was unable to see out of the glasses. I had terrible ghosting.) I will order a cheap pair of glasses online to see, but since my records got screwed up this time too, I'm not sure what axis I'm going to end up with: the 70 one on the prescription or a different one. I'd just like your opinion. I understand you can't give medical advice. Thanks.

I'm an engineer so bear with my geekiness please. I get a prescription and I need additional correction for reading (ADD). But, I don't like the "reading prescription" focal distance being so close because I can't read the dash of my car while driving. If I push the focal point out to about arms length, then I find that the depth of field is so nice and long that I can read a book by holding it just a bit farther away; I can see the dash just fine; and bonus, I things at my feet are in focus. So, what is the formula to push the "reading prescription" focal point out another 12 inches? (I hacked it myself, but would love to check it from an expert).
@SluggishDuck4 ай бұрын
example. If you are over 50 years old your lens which is used for accommodation for near distance will go stiff. Usually if we look at near objects we automatically accommodate to pushour far point to that thing. If you had no lens or it is not working anymore: +3 dpt of ADD. Reciprocal of that means 1/3 which means 0,33m or 33cm since 1/dpt is meter. To push your far point more to distance you need to take your ADD and reduce it. -> 1 dpt: 1/1 which means 1m.

Astigmatism in both my eyes. My glasses make it seem my one year is bigger than the other. Is there any other way around to making my glasses look even?
@SluggishDuck4 ай бұрын
One way to achieve that in your situation would be to correct both of your eyes with contact lenses and wear glasses with 0 power on top of it. Or you could look into Ortho-K lenses. One Problem there would be that you might be out of range for those lenses because your high cylinder on the right. But you could try it. Else it's kinda rough to fix it since glasses who correct high - naturally come with reducing the size of the picture. Same the other way round.

TY I have noticed about every four months my prescription needs to be changed but my insurance only pays for once a year. Do some people have acelerated changes? My near sightedness is going in reverse. I have gone backwards on it with each check up.
@DoctorEyeHealth4 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for asking! There can be some causes of a faster changing prescription. In a younger individual, I would be concerned about a condition called keratoconus - which is a progressive corneal disease that often causes frequent prescription changes. For people that are middle aged, the change in prescription could be related to early lens changes (the lens inside the eye begins to crystallize and this can change the power of the eye), which is very normal. in addition if someone had been over-minused in their glasses - they may experience this change to a faster degree as the power of the eye changes and the eye muscles cannot compensate as well. The one other major thing I would want to watch out for would be blood sugar changes such as with early uncontrolled diabetes. Higher blood sugars can cause a swelling of the lens inside the eye and can cause a shift in glasses prescriptions. Hope this helps.

This is great - super helpful. In 10 years of going to the same eye doctors office, they've never offered to share my vision or prescription measurements. I finally asked this year as I'm trying to wear bifocals and wanted to understand how they're configured. Would love to see content on how bifocals/progressives are configured and measured - and if you haven't already, how glasses should fit, eg when do you need to have the ear pieces adjusted, or the angles of the ear pieces to the lens frames. And - curious how many visits to the eye doc should it take to get the right vision correction? Every year I have to go back multiple times - strength of prescription given is often far too strong. I'm trying really hard to learn as much as I can to help 'correct' when the script is off (and truth be told I don't have time to go to the eye doc 5 and 6 times a year just for 1 pair of glasses)

@DoctorEyeHealth3 ай бұрын
Some people can take off the distance glasses but it depends on the status/ pull of the eye muscles. For myself, I’m so nearsighted that if I take my glasses off, or don’t wear my contact lenses, then I can see things up close near my face but to keep things single I have to close my eyes. Neurolens, just saw a website for them. Seems like a god thing. Maybe you can research them and do a video.

My prescription has two sets of the numbers. One set is ordered power and the other set is labelled measured power. Is there a difference?
@DoctorEyeHealth4 ай бұрын
Hmmm. Perhaps that is another way to write Manifest Refraction (measured power) and the Final Refraction (Ordered Power?). In eye care, when someone does a subjective refraction (the better 1 or 2 test), the final result of the subjective component is not always what the doctor will prescribe. Because sometimes the subjective results would cause problems with the eyes, such as double vision, for example. That is a bit of a guess though, I have never heard of anyone writing Ordered Power and Measured Power. Can I ask what country you got the Prescription in? Perhaps its a regional thing.

I live in New Zealand. I suspect you are right as I have had a vitrectomy and I'm prone to double vision in one eye. Thank you for replying 😊

Q uestion i went to an optometrist and she gave me axis number of 150/65 R/L three weeks later i saw an opthmalogist and he axis numbers where 35/170 R/L what should i do??
@DoctorEyeHealthАй бұрын
Sounds like the optometrist wrote the prescription in minus cylinder and the ophthalmologist wrote it in plus cylinder. The prescriptions are probably pretty similar. I do have a bias but optometrists study the theory and are trained specifically on refraction where most ophthalmologists study advanced surgery, not refraction. So I would try the prescription from the optometrist first.

i’m sorry for everything you’ve been through, God really wants to let you know that He loves you so much. He sent his one and only Son down, Jesus Christ, to die for you and i while we were still living in sin. With Him you can be made new, you are covered with the Precious Blood of Jesus. Following Him is not going to be easy, cutting off sin, changing ways that you live in sin and/or cutting off friends. Not living like the world can be hard in the beginning. But it really is worth it. Please start reading the Bible and pray to receive Him im in a way that is undeniable. Because He will make Himself known to you. i say this to you in love and compassion. Jesus loves you and start to live for Him. It will be the best opportunity of your life.

I would LOVE to be a -5.5! I’m a -13 😐. Even with this eyesight, I’m thankful to God often that my vision can be corrected with contact lenses, but it’s so hard to find eyeglasses that I don’t dislike. I am also in the early stages of a cataract in my right eye. I’ll be trying to fight that with good/better nutrition. I feel certain God will help me with that. I’ve just recently found your channel. Keep up the good work! I’m learning so much. I’ll be praying you’ll be able to endure as long as God wants you to endure. 🙏🙂

Thanks Doctor, your videos over the years have been SO clutch for eyeglasses, Transitions and especially ordering prescription sunglasses! My new prescription at the bottom says: Active - Yes Usage - Multifocal The doctor said I wasn't getting progressive or bifocals, but it appears I am maybe? Idk. Thanks!

Hi, I would be curious tu know your opinion on Essilor Eyezen +. I’m in my late 20s and on my last prescription I had a facultative +0.75 on my prescription. A video on anti fatigue lenses would be great 😊 (I should receive my new glasses in a week, I hope those lenses really do help with headaches). Great video as always

Hey! Random question: Do you ever prescribe your patients “honeycomb lenses”? Someone I know got honeycomb lenses from their eye doctor “to help with myopia” (doctor’s words) and I was curious how the honeycombs actually help! I love this video btw. It’s quite helpful with my own glasses journey. Thank you!

I have a question: are blacklights bad for your eyes? I grew up loving blacklight posters and I have a blacklight in my bedroom that I use as somewhat like a nightlight. The bulb is not visible and it is pointed upward to light up my ceiling. It's only on while I'm getting ready for bed as ambient light. But could this be bad for my eyes if it's on a regular basis every night?

Dr. Allen - Nice job on "how to read your prescription." I left a question below.
@rochelleuah4 ай бұрын
Is there any type of correction when one eye focuses on a different location? This is especially frustrating for me when reading. A sudden change in location causes a disjointed stream of information. But other times the disjointed information is not easily detected which can lead to all kinds of problems.
