Glassing Tips by MountainMan - Looking for Ibex - Swiss Alps

For those interested in spectacular alpine scenery, it is hard to overlook what Switzerland has to offer.
Join me on a climb into the Swiss Alps to glass and video (3) Ibex rams and a chamois buck.

Thanks Nathan, I'd never filmed animals with the drone before but being on a nature walk I quite enjoyed getting some different angles and perspectives. I've never sent the drone up when actually glassing at animals on a hunt for fear it will spook them. Great holiday, the best we've had so far by a long shot and I took plenty of videos and photos which I'll stitch up some private videos for the family to remind us of how much fun we had!! (We call them "memory movies")

Yep its beautiful alright Jamie, stunning country and what beautiful animals the Ibex are, is that free range where you are can anyone hunt there or is it private land, thanks for taking us with you.

This is public land but I'm not 100% sure of Switzerland's hunting laws and regulations in terms of hunting access. Walkers and photographers free reign 😀 I did ask at the information centre in the nearby town and they said September was the hunting season for chamois ibex and red deer, and that in October you could hunt roe deer on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday (from memory). And there were local hunters who were in their 60s and 70s that had been hunting in the area we were staying and had been successful on chamois. But I don't believe hunting in Switzerland (or anywhere in Europe) is as liberal as it is in Australia and NZ in terms of just getting a rifle license, buying a deer stalking permit and having free reign to hunt games species on public land... I'm also not sure of the license fee structures and tag system but I can imagine Ibex would be one of Switzerland's premium game species to hunt on public land. We really enjoyed our time there, it was a magnificent place and the kids were old enough to do remember the holiday. Glad you enjoyed it; something a little different

Absolutely, We are worlds apart. Although there is good and bad with either, which I won't launch into here, but I was fortunate to stumble onto a small hunting hut up in the alpine region that had no road access and could only be got to by foot or horse. And on the barn doors there were carvings dating back to 1874. Amazing heritage aye
