I don't think that Chainsaw Man "sucked". The problem with Chainsaw Man as I see it is that there was such a MASSIVE amount of hype built up about it before it's release that it couldn't match such unreasonable expectations. It was standard Shounen faire with some extra blood. Jujutsu Kaisen was made by the same studio a couple years ago, has the same story as Chainsaw Man, but is better in most ways. I still like Chainsaw Man and intend on watching future seasons of it, but it wasn't the earth shattering masterpiece that it was built up to be.
@TheDonLemonSnickety Жыл бұрын
I’m gonna be the first I know of to say this, and I mean it whole heartedly….what MAPPA did with the source material of Chainsaw Man? They made the best visual and cinematic interpretation of the story I could possibly imagine. Let’s stop playing ultra critics here and just talk in terms of plain execution and story telling…Chainsaw Man was absolutely amazing in its anime form and I’m absolutely certain BETTER than the manga. And no, I’ve never said that about anything before, but I know how to be hold back my biases when my instincts are telling me my the accepted consensus opinion is wrong, and this is one of those rare cases. I read just about 10 chapters of the manga before watching the anime, and then i reread the whole thing twice since the anime season ended and been merely keeping up w new chapters lately. But I’m absolutely sure once we have the entire Chainsaw Man part 1 animated, and we get to see the doors of hell, and the scenes with certain door guests (both the one at the door at makima’s place after the dog convo and also the equally tragic one who shows up at Denji and Power’s place…..and after taking in both of those I think my soul was left feeling entirely empty), the international assassins insanity, “Halloween, Halloween, Halloween”, omg dance dance revolution! We are going ABSOLUTLEY going to end up with the full animated part 1 being held in the higher echelons of anime greatness, ending the sentences that start with words like Akira. Just think about how great of a job the show did pacing the story and adding so many layers of depth and detail to flesh out the world. Makima’s hand gestures when she does her ritual? The way that whole scene played out vs the manga was incredible. It was cool on paper, but now it’s legendary animated. pS Jujutsu Kaisen is typical Shonen. In fact it’s Bleach but with a few changes (that douchebag curse who changes the shape of ppls souls was pretty awesome and horrific tho), but Chainsaw man is nearly trope free! If you read the manga and think Jujutsu and CM are both standard Shonen, I don’t think we would agree on the shape of the earth. I HATE to be this guy, but if you think CM is “typical” you need to have it explained to you. There is nothing in any shonen, and only the very best seinen really, that matches the creativity and overarching genius of the way CM unfolds. I only would say that the manga version of Berserk and maybe the first time I watched Eva and then End of Evangelion was I hit with a similar sense of awe. Especially with all the fridge revelations that come after the experience. You realize so many things and how well it was thought out. Even really great Shonen like Hunter x Hunter or Attack on Titan don’t exactly nail it like that. Well AOT is a bit controversial until we see how they end the anime…

@@ramonlrey99com Indeed, not to mention the style in which it was composed is far more cinematic than any other anime, to my knowledge. The sudden bursts of ultraviolence and gore are in service and support of a solid story. A story thant will progressively cut deeper emotionally than the literal chainn saws in the show as timebgoes on. That said, I completely understand that the sort of over the top violence and gore can be a major turn off for some people. All that said, I hope we each enjoy the wide variety of anime we each enjoy.

@Dharengo CSM and AoT are not only good because of the action. It's the writing/ storytelling. Sure, some major points that pull people in are the shock factor and action. However, AoT second season when it aired wasn't liked nearly as much due to it being more story focused and when all the pieces were put in place through multiple seasons thats when the show became so highly praised. (Not saying it doesn't have alot of action, because it does lol) With CSM, all of the hype are from manga readers who know what's coming. The writing and characters in csm are incredible. The first season is only going to show a glimpse of why people love this story. Tasuki Fujimoto is an incredible writer. I highly recommend you read the manga if you enjoy reading or want to get into a manga for the first time. Also, both shows are completely different.
@robertjohnpecayo8642 Жыл бұрын
@Dharengo My first impression of Chainsawman is.. it feels fresh and raw. You can feel that the author was not just following a standard shounen formula, but is inspired by a variety of media. It is written so tightly that there's no excessive dialogue or wordy exposition, character lines always perform two or more things(exploring the character and relationships between other characters, worldbuilding exposition and most of the time, foreshadowing what's gonna come) while also feeling smooth(like a well written movie or novel). This smoothness gives great service to its delivery of the narrative as we the readers/viewers gets absorbed more and more. It does have excellent action scenes(and my god the manga art and panelling is exceptional) but those things won't matter if the storytelling isn't as smooth and great as it is. The way I can describe it is, a very smooth rollercoaster gradually speeding up, going through medium loops until you realize that the breaks are broken and you keep accelerating but at that point you're too invested and you want to see where it ends. The second half of the anime gives us a glimpse on how what is coming and how the ride will be from there on. Check it out, you might like it, there's nothing like it(as far as I know) that anime can offer.

For me your video on Bocchi the Rock was absolutely perfect timing. Anime of the year for me, but for very personal reasons. By the time I saw your video on Bocchi the season was mostly over - episode 8 I think it was, but TLDR I had a very big falling out with my closest friends, I was feeling run down at work, I'm a carer for my mum, and was just feeling totally overwhelmed by everything and was honestly on the edge of a nervous breakdown, suffering from depression and just total despair at life overall. So when I saw your video on Bocchi the Rock and how you talked about how you could relate to her, it struck a chord (see what I did there) to me on so many levels, and I grew to utterly love the show and all of it's characters. Usually I only watch Shonen, so the genre itself was a change of pace for me, but the show me laugh genuine laughter for what felt like the first time in ages, it made me cry and seeing Bocchi slowly being and to do things she never thought was possible was absolutely what I needed. Over the Xmas break I finished the show entirely, utterly loved it and also have managed to patch things up with my friends. The last point I want to thank you for, because without your video I would never have even known Bocchi the Rock existed at all, so thankyou so much from the bottom of my heart GR, I hope you have a brilliant new year, Thankyou and Stay Frosty.

I haven't ranked the shows on my list but I have one show which is AOTY for me. From Winter season:- Teasing master Takagi San S3:- This show was one of my comfort food. I loved seeing the development of Takagi and Nishikata's relationship. Sabikui Bisco:- Loved the vibe of this show and the camraderie between Bisco and Milo. From Spring season:- Spy x Family:- The meme faces Anya made alone was worth to watch the show. Summer time rendering:- I read the manga on Manga Plus before watching it to avoid spoilers and it's a great manga. Also the anime adaptation nails the manga's mystery aspect. Shinpei is one of the best MC of 2022. It's a shame what Disney did to it. Ao Ashi:- Binged watched it in fall but it's technically a spring show. Anyway I loved the intensity of the matches and the main character Ashito. Usually a character like him can be annoying but they somehow made him likeable. Kaguya sama love is war S3:- My Anime of the year. Loved everything. I watched the rap episode atleast 4 times. And I don't watch an episode repeatedly. That's how much I loved it. Can't wait for the movie. From Summer:- Made in abyss S2:- I prefer the first season overall but I still liked this season. There were many crazy moments. Call of the night:- The chill vibe of the show is something I can't forget. I desperately need a season 2. Cyberpunk edgerunners:- The full fledged insanity I didn't know I needed. Kind of wish it was 12 episodes instead of 10 but overall it was great from start to finish. From Fall:- Mob psycho 💯 S3:- It was concluding the plot point from 1st season and it was good and all. But I prefer season 2. Still I love how it ended. Mob's character progression is great. Akiba maid war:- I can't forget to put this one on my list. Maids behaving like Yakuza is something I didn't know I needed but I love it. Romantic killer:- The most underrated show of the year and it's a shame Netflix did not promote it as much as they did for Cyberpunk edgerunners. It's a hilarious show. The romance is also great. If only we could get a season 2. Arknights Prelude to Dawn:- Didn't expect a mobile game adaptation to be this good. But it knocked it out of the park. Chainsaw man:- I don't think I have much to add besides the fact that it lived up to the hype. Need more of it. More than a married couple, but not lovers:- This show surprised me actually at how good it is despite the blatant fan service. Loved the color palettes they used for the backgrounds of the show. Going to put these as honourable mentions since they haven't finished:- My Hero Academia S6:- As a massive fan of this series I am so glad it is back in such a spectacular fashion. I was really worried since season 5 felt like a chore to watch but Studio Bones are definitely doing their best this time. Can't wait for the next half of episodes. Welcome to Demon school! Iruma-kun S3:- This series is still fun. Urusei Yatsura:- I have watched the original anime adaptation so I was wondering how would David Productions bring it to modern day audience. They have toned down certain things in regards to Ataru but I think they'll do fine as we get more episodes. They have definitely captured the spirit of the series

Your initial video covering Made in Abyss actually got me to pick up season one. It had been on Netflix for probably a year, long past being suggested, I had no reason to go back and look. Something about the title card they picked made me peg it as a bad CGI show or game adaption. I'm SO glad I picked it up. Thank you for that.

Golden City of the Scorching Sun was quite possibly the most painful experience I’ve ever had watching an anime. Partly because I watched the entire thing in a single sitting. It was like they took the mental stress of Violet Evergarden’s tenth episode and made it even MORE painful, and then persisted on delivering punch after punch, each stronger than the last, for almost an ENTIRE season. On the one hand, it’s still (also) my favorite show. On the other, I find it incredibly difficult to recommend to anyone, because I’m not sure I want to subject them to that level of emotional damage, (insert meme here.) Either or, I adore it. In some ways more than season one, in many ways less. It is brilliant, and I don’t say that often at all.

Once they're done with the Hathaway films and Witch From Mercury, what I wanna see from Bandai related to Gundam is one of three things animated which I think most Gundam fans could agree to if they've gone down the Gundam rabbit hole far enough. 1) Crossbone Gundam (this series has been ongoing for over 2 decades now, the crossbone design is popular as hell and already had model kits in various grades, takes place post F91 and pre-, during-, and post- Victory Gundam, and is now in Late Universal Century, before the movie that shall not be named) 2) Sentinel Gundam (Between Zeta and ZZ, smaller scale story much like Thunderbolt, could be a 3 to 4 part ONA before a theatrical version release) 3) MSVR: The Return of Johnny Ridden (Pre CCA, focuses on extra material characters, does bring in a lot of cool designs and machines from the early parts of the UC timeline, really meant for fan service) And for God's sake STOP P- BANDAI'ING EVERYTHING COOL!

Hey Arkada, I'm on the exact same page with you on Made in Abyss and Chainsaw Man. Even after reading both of all of their manga, still can't decide which i love more. I would say as an overall piece of highly original, exquisitely crafted art, Made in Abyss squeaks out ahead. Probably because Chainsaw Man is a serial and Made in Abyss releases whenever the fuck the mangaka feels like it. But Chainsaw Man is an almost perfect commentary on the state of the world right now. It's tough to choose. I wish Made in Abyss had even a quarter of the HYPE that Chainsaw Man does though, because it definitely deserves it.

I am so bummed to say, I found the 3rd season, after the beginning giant broccoli Psycho helmet arc, was kinda much less than I was hoping for. I’ll admit that I loved the show so much from day one, and it’s had many huge climax points already, so it was difficult to know how or if they could conclude it in a way that’s on the same level, and like I fear with Berserk, I would say they didn’t. I’m still grateful to have gotten another season of one of the best shows of the last decade, but I sadly was left pretty unsatisfied. :( But I am genuinely glad that you were able to enjoy it! Your favorite Gundam is Turn A? Wow, that is some rare taste right there. Do love it, but I felt it was definitely a throwback to a different time pacing-wise, felt more like it was made in the 70s than the tail end of the 90s. Harry is definitely my fav Char clone though.

My Dress Up Darling is probably my favorite of the year. Love RomComs in the first place but the details pertaining to each of the MC's hobbies was quite frankly stunning. The author clearly did a ton of research into both and it shows in spades. And it cannot be understated how adorkable to two MCs are. Little fan-servicy initially but it's one of the few times where that actually serves a purpose in depicting the two and, if the show is faithful to the manga, will be appropriately dialed back next season.

@@capolot Get on that then...I highly doubt you'll be disappointed. Others to check out if you haven't yet: "Horimiya" is another good romcom...13 episodes that actually explores a high school couple's relationship after they get together so none of the will-they-won't-they drama for them. "Higehiro" is a good one to check out too...lighter on the comedy but it takes a fairly common hentai trope (it is NOT hentai though by any stretch) and turns it on its head in a very wholesome way. "Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It" is a semi-educational romcom (ala Dr. Stone...which, while not a romcom, is also very good) about two university students who try to come up with a scientific definition for what love is. "Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro" is a bit of an inversion of the usual formula though if tsundere characters aren't your cup of tea I'd avoid this and check out "Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie" instead...similar concepts w/o the tsundere lead. If tsundere characters don't bother you then also check out "Toradora". "Love After World Domination" is a light hearted spoof on the "Super Sentai" (Power Ranges) genre where one of the heroes and one of the villains fall in love. Shenanigans ensue as they try to hide their relationship from their respective teams. "Love Hina", "Ah My Goddess" & "Ai Yori Aoshi" are a few harem style classics though admittedly they're much older and I'm not sure how well they've aged as I last watched them when Netflix was still shipping out DVDs. "The Quintessential Quintuplets" is a more modern take on similar ideas. And while more drama and background romance than comedy, "Violet Evergarden" is one I recommend to everyone...just have your tissues handy....and if you enjoy that check out "Anohana".

Bocchi the Rock is a special kind of story with an oddly relatable character that kind of makes you question things. On one side you have a character like Komi which has social anxiety to such a severe degree that it could be just someone pondering how someone like that could live their life, but I didn't find Komi relatable. Bocchi is a character that is so oddly relatable to me that I almost seriously question if the writer has similar problems. The emotional rollercoasters, downward spirals, and not contacting friends for extended periods are way to realistic despite the story playing them off with the other characters and turning it into something humorous. I'm almost questioning if this is a story that should be enjoyed in a traditional sense. Anyone that has taken an interest and done any amount of actual study into literature should likely know that there are a such thing as stories that aren't meant to be enjoyed and sometimes not even meant to be seen. Sometimes someone writes a story as a means of coping with things they have a hard time handling. Sometimes people write a story with an alternate, "better" version of themselves. Sometimes people write stories as just an account of things that happened. Good stories will always be shared, somehow even without the purpose of the writer. Granted, Bocchi the Rock doesn't seem like one of these stories, but it reminds me enough of them that I question if I should be enjoying this as much as I did.
