Definitely don't skip out on Undead Girl Murder Farce, this show surprised me from the get-go. Superb dialogue between the main trio and strong visuals and direction which is not that surprising in hindsight looking at the director. He did Kaguya-sama and Rakugo Shinjuu.

Murder Farce is a murder mystery show with supernatural beings and I'm here for it. Also the 2 main leads have such awesome chemistry and are constantly joking at each other's expense, often in the middle of their investigating. (on episode 3 at time of this comment). Worth the watch

And while they haven't revealed yet what the original protagonist of the game will do, it's very likely that that's where the story is headed in the source material. The show was kinda building up to something like that. The show was still very entertaining tho.

It’s worth mentioning on _My Happy Marriage_ that this is the first time I've seen a Netflix-licensed anime series be simuldubbed and released on the same day as the Japanese release worldwide and with an English dub. So overall this is a win-win for Netflix and especially for the anime fans after years of fans complaining about Netflix's practices on licensing anime by releasing them with the dub just 4-6 months after the first episode's Japanese airing (e.g. _Carole & Tuesday, Shaman King 2021, Eden's Zero, Case Closed: Zero Tea Time,_ etc.) or withholding them with a 1-2 week delay as shown through _Blue Period, Komi Can't Communicate_ and _Uncle from Another World_ leading to the "Netflix Jail" criticism for most anime fans (e.g. Chibi Reviews). Not to mention that the best advantage of My Happy Marriage being released weekly worldwide on Netflix on the same day as the Japanese release, will lead to more weekly discussions and "word of mouth" within the anime community that would last for 3-4 weeks perhaps months but could also lead to gifs and memes from the show, and Netflix seeing the success could possibly lead into them possibly licensing more anime that could be of interest to them and simuldub them the same day as the Japanese release of the anime. So hopefully Netflix will continue to simuldub and eventually license more future anime and release them on the same day as the Japanese version, as shown with their upcoming licensing of _Delicious in Dungeon_

As I said before, _My Happy Marriage_ is actually the first time we had a Netflix licensed anime release all languages including the English dub on the same day and released weekly as the Japanese version, instead of having Netflix withhelding the anime and releasing the anime with an English dub 3-6 months later after it’s Japanese airing.

Idk about US but violet evergarden was definitely simuldubbed in the UK atleast so imo YT still counts as one of the first to break the Netflix jail curse and become widely available to most viewers as soon as possible. It’s good that this trend is continuing with my happy marriage tho (and in an even more accessible way). I doubt it’ll become the norm though because it usually only happens when a show has finished production (which was the case for Violet evergarden) and most anime are usually worked on up to the last few days.

In terms of the Villainess genre, while a more mysterious narrative would be interesting and a few manga have definitely wrapped around that idea, the general idea is that the plots aren't an answer to WHAT will happen, but HOW it will happen. Knowing the ending isn't a problem if the journey is enjoyable to watch, especially if new and unknown conflicts arise.

I don't know if I can blame him, but it does feel like he wasn't paying much attention when he watched it, whereas other shows he talks about, even ones he disliked, he seems to have been actively engaging with the material. was he tired or distracted by something else while watching Seven Spellblades? like, missing the part where 'oh 20% of the students won't survive to graduation', Oliver having some kind of ninja/assassin reporting to him, and a couple of other things? Granted, part of the design choice with the show is purposefully misleading.

None of the elements you listed are all that engaging. Well, at least depending on how you interpret them. "20% of the students won't survive", is that in a literal sense or an academic sense? Academically this is not news. Heck when I started university we were essentially told the same thing, with how dropout rates were for first years. But even if it was 20% of the student body will literally by dead by graduation I mean....everyone else there took it pretty nonchalantly for that to be the case. As for having a ninja/assassin reporting to him well, I covered that with him having a "mysterious past" that isn't all that engaging. Most mysterious pasts are left ambiguous so that there is always a hidden plot macguffin to remove any stakes from the narrative so I'm personally wery of them. Reign of the Seven spellblades might end up being an amazing series, I can't judge the work as a whole. But I wasn't impressed by the first episodes. Have I been wrong before? Yes. Absolutely. But if I don't cut out the things that just don't grab me under the pretence that "maybe it'll get better" then I'll just be forcing myself to keep watching everything even if it turns out to be garbage. and I don't have that kind of spare time ^-^;;

I largely despise isekai and the trope of an OP protagonist. That said, I've been watching Reincarnated as a Sword lately and that show is a blast. The voice acting - watching the dub - and the relationship between the two main characters are what make this series shine for me. Give it a look if, like me, you usually auto-toss on anything in the isekai genre.

I read a little of "Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero" and while the comedy comes from the antics of the two main characters. The actual story revolves around a human civil war lead by the hero's former party members. (Possibly since they aren't fighting demons at the moment.) I liked it. The secretary is my favorite, she tries to act straight laced but she's the most over the top.

The first bits worked as a good lead up to the actual beginning of the game and showing how mundane Ryza's life really is, it also works to establish the different parts of the village and the various characters more like a show and less like a game since the game is limited to a singular perspective. So I think so far it's a good adaptation by taking elements of the game and reworking them for TV. Those are just my thoughts on that

And personally, I think that there are only two new anime worth watching this season, and they are: - Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead - Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan (2023) There are also some other new anime that I may continue watching, such as: - The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today - My Happy Marriage - The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses But I am not sure that I will complete them to the end.

Manga was good, but most mangas and LN I like get short stick when adapted to anime, Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer being most recent example. I would say that plot started a bit weak and improved as time went on, so I wonder how much of the story will be adapted. To clarify: plot wasn't bad at the beginnig, but unlike most, it was improving as series went on, unlike most that get dissapointing around the end.

Undead Murder Fa(r)ce and Zom 100 are by far my favorite new animes in this season's start, good premise and good production I also have hope for Liar Liar, Gene of AI and Helck. Seven Spellblades first episode really disappointed me, but I'll continue for now. Also with X&Y (spring one but ending this month) and Link Click's season 2 donghuas are taking two of my top spots of the year.

I think the publishers are really believing ZOM 100. Not only the anime just released with huge marketing. Live action ZOM 100 is about to release as well, even coming to Netflix on Aug 3. Well, here's the problem when anyone tries to guess what the story is about before having reached the end of a prologue : all the guesses are wrong. Here, case in point, Reign of the Seven Spellblades's main plot isn't going to involve some menace for the school, isn't going to have the problem solved by the power of friendship, and the protagonist isn't especially "secretly OP". It kind of baffles me how many peoples have been judging the "story" of that anime in particular when none of them actually what the story is about. You can't judge a story before the end of a prologue, no matter the work. You can't judge how interesting characters are either, since there will be no major character development before the end of a prologue. You can judge the rest obviously, like animation, music, setting itself, and so on, but not the story. This isn't, and by far, the first show it happens, and it truly feels like the anime community is completely oblivious of something that should be so obvious to anyone reading novels regularly.

But then, is kind is the story fault anyways, when I see a first chapter, I expect that to be the prologue, or at least that they try their best to make that first step appealing, if it's not our fault if is misrepresentative of the story, the public is not in obligation to watch all the episodes you need to tell the full prologue. That's why I think Oshi no Ko did good in having a first movie instead so people can know quickly what the show is about instead of having to watch half season to even know the story.

@@fabiomora6491 I don't know, I've been feeling a similar sentiment myself. Just seems like people are increasingly becoming more quick to judge based on less and less these days. And to say it's often off the mark isn't a rarity either. There are hallmark anime back in the day that took literally dozens of episodes to get going. For instance, "The King of Braves GaoGaiGar" is one of the most celebrated mecha series out there and it's often regarded to drag its feet for the first 25 or so episodes, essentially the first half of its runtime over the course of half a year. I guess that's just the consequences of society moving faster and faster. Things need to be more immediately hooking for it to have any worth.

The complaint about villainess anime is actually already addressed by an anime last season ot the one before. There is a ton of good villainess stuff out there, just hoping we get some more brought to anime.

One of the disadvantage of the huge number of new anime each season is that both basic viewers and critics try to quickly reduce the number either by rejecting a show on its title or premise, or by only watching the establishing episodes and considering them as a reflection of the whole show. I can totally understand tossing a show because the first few episodes did not interest you - I do this all the time, even with highly regarded shows. But I don't think it is reasonable to think that you can "guess" the whole story of a show from its first episodes - and then use this product of your own imagination to judge the show as a whole. Some of the shows you tossed, you did because of what you think their story will be - when they are built on establishing a basic formula and then twisting it in unexpected directions.. it is very blasé, more and more common among youtube anime critics/influencers, and leads to good shows falling into obscurity not because of their faults, but because of preconceptions or fortune telling.

Yeah mostly I didn't mind, but I really kind of think people just shouldn't start Seven Spellblades until the third episode is out. I'm thoroughly spoiled and thus invested, but the first episode isn't built to hook people. It's not really audience friendly, just dropping you in without providing proper context, like if the first Harry Potter book started on the train to Hogwarts. Bold decision, but it WILL alienate some people

I would not toss Spellblades just yet, there's a twist that was left out of the anime opening. The light novel opens with a very dark scene. The MC is not attending the Academy for learning but for a more sinester reason. Neither the trailer nor the anime have touched on the real plot.

The angles actually keep my attention because they aren't stock footage #27. Plus, they do look gorgeous. It kinda reminds me of some of the scenes from Ping Pong the Animation... just gonna say you should stick around for Tenpuru, while yes it's a harem anime it has that old trashy DxD vibe to it that you don't get nowadays, also the creator of Tenpuru was the artist for Grand Blue Dreaming and it shows The Second Episode of Dark Gathering though... that was so good, and as somebody who has been slightly spoiled for some of the character stories i can tell you that this will delve deep into getting creepier and creepier Also for Dreaming Boy is a Realist... don't bother, just read the LN, they butchered and murdered the series to high hell

How has nobody mentioned that My Tiny Senpai is Just "My Senpai is Annoying" from a couple of years ago, except the love interest isn't a seven foot and change monster and thus won't split the female lead in half. Like, that's the spice of My Senpai Is Annoying, and taking that away and also removing kooky Eastern European lady just leaves you with a bowl full of wet pak choi.

@@Draconic_Incenerator I mean, I'm glad it's two cakes for you, and I'd really appreciate a second series of Annoying Senpai, but TinySen just seems derivative, and the fact the main character is the guy also removes a lot of what made that series work. Like, the whole point of AnnoyPai was that she's in love with a guy who constantly sees her as cute and just a good, reliable colleague, but also happens to be built like fuckin' Master Chief. It's kind of compelling and a bit deeper than its basic premise would suggest. Without that angle it's just regular non-master-chief guy in love with regular short queen who doesn't have natural green hair.

I really kind of hope you ended up giving Level 1 Demon Lord more time. I was kind of surprised at how much the show has grown on me in the, as of now, six episodes. Undead Murder Farce = "I can't believe it's not from Shin Megami Tensei". The dark detective story would fit an SMT game pretty well. The dude even has very similar tattoos to the Demi-fiend from SMT3... and he's also a half demon.

I know that many will not agree with me, but... Personally, the first episode of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead was even stronger for me than the first episode of Oshi on Ko. The first episode affected me with many forms, that made me sympathize with the main character and get excited with him and all the events, without mentioning the great production and directing. In my opinion, it definitely deserves 10/10 and it became one of the best three beginning episodes that I saw in my life.

I wouldn’t consider a strong first episode to be that amazing. What matters is that they don’t fizzle out in the end. Plenty of shows anime or otherwise have strong first episodes as they usually are supposed to for hooking people in.

about "Am I actually The Strongest?", you kinda missed the point. It's supposed to be a comedy where the fun is on how stupid things can get, so if you watch it with the mindset of a normal run-of-the-mill isekai you will get disapointed. Granted, it isn't a Konosuba nor a Eminence in the Shadow, but it still tickles my funny bones. Maybe changing your perspective may change your mind about it?

It might devolve into harem nonsense, but the initial premise of Dreaming Boy is a Realist is interesting. What if you wake up one day and realize the girl you're pursuing isn't actually a tsundere, but just genuinely hates you. You're still in love with her, but she'll never love you back, so you try to move on with your life by letting her go.

I always thought it needed an anime, but I never expected it to actually happen and to be so promising. Normally I'm quite hedgy on the prospect of an obscure, almost "closely kept secret" of a thing getting more exposure and potentially going "mainstream" (example: Fear and Hunger), but here I'm cheering as loud as Helck's tournament audience, excited for him to succeed. Unnatural behavior for me, but it just feels right.

I'm really only watching Sugar Apple Fairy Tale S2 this season (and technically Mushoku Tensei S2, but I'm a manga reader, so I don't really need to, and to be honest, I haven't really been all that happy with the way this S2 has started out). I can't tell if this season just feels lackluster, if I'm getting a bit burnt out or tired on anime, or both.

I normally agree with your tastes, and I understand that your basing this on a single episode, but you could not be more wrong about Level 1 Demon Lord One Room Hero. I get that it starts out seeming like it's going to be a slice of life with a twist hammering on one joke (ha ha the hero's actually a loser), but you know the thing you said you hoped it would be about but didn't expect it to be... that absolutely is the thing that's it's about! I don't want to get into spoilers or anything (uh... disregarding my previous sentence), but it's not just a quirky SoL, there's actual story/plot development, the characters go through arcs, the chemistry between characters is really well developed... Again, I don't want to get into spoiler territory, so I'll just leave it at this. I honestly feel that this is going to end up being this seasons dark horse underdog hit, and dropping it now would be doing yourself a disservice. Keep an eye on this shit!
