@winterjargon There is definitely some sort of keyboard track or hidden keyboardist they are playing to, but the rest is definitely live. I don't think bands ever lip sync on Jools Holland.
@winterjargon13 жыл бұрын
@canarycoalmine Yeah she's Swedish! Rab apparently requested that the record company get a Swedish female drummer and James felt embarrassed for him, but then they actually did end up getting a stand up, Swedish girl drummer because they chose her over all the others and so it stuck. The previous drummer, Caroline McKay, left shortly before they were to record the new album. I get the impression she struggled alot with stage fright and that her reasons for leaving were mostly to do with that.

@TheLexyboy I don't have the link for it but the show released a statement about all sorts of things that go over my head but it's just as you say - it's the mikes that caused them to look like they are miming at points. Jools Holland doesn't accept miming, it's all about the live music. Glasvegas don't mime either. I can get you the link if you like.

Saw them on the "Live" jools holland 30mins show on tuesday night and they were diabolical. I watched the normal 1 hour show on friday night to see if they would show that dire performance. Well they showed the dire performance but NOT the sound to go with it...they obviously over dubbed a sound check version over the top of it...thats why James looks like he's miming. I love Glasvegas and am going to see them in 2 weeks time, but dear me I hope they improve massively from Tuesdays show
Im Scottish its live,there are parts he sings that aint on the original.Check out Daddys gone on Jules Holland,epic.

@winterjargon Well now I'm buggered if I can find it but I know someone who knows the band who told me all about the link in the first place. I shall ask her and post it when I've got it.

I originally thought it was a mime (I have never seen the band before), certain parts seem odd but I put that down to maybe the electronic sound/echo of the voice. But, if you watch around 3.44 there is a dip in the voice volume which coincides precisely with a circular whisk of the mic. I doubt you could pull that off, I'm convinced it is a live performance. However, I will admit I know very little about singing live, only the time I drank 15 pints and belted out 'Love shack' at a Karaoke....

@BoredIslandGirl Please post the link!!! I've been having debates with people about this whole ridiculous miming thing on the glasvegas @ sunderland videos... and would like to set the record straight....
@jamesfletcher13563314 жыл бұрын
It sounds like they've put the performance from the sound checks they do over the video of the main performance. Perhaps something went wrong, or they were even worse for the proper one. That would explain them not performing perfectly as it would only be a soundcheck where it needn't be perfect and why it looks like they mime (but not to the recorded version from the album).
@JonBritton13 жыл бұрын
At what point, exactly, does it look like they're miming? I don't get it...

Miming on jools holland ?

P.S Why would any performer torture themselves over the ridiculously difficult task of miming live to a heavily improvised live pre-recording of themselves when they could just play live to begin with????

I'm guessing the vocals are on a backing track. They're exactly the same as the record. The drummer will hear a click track in her in-ears and drum to that so the band stays in time with the track.

Absolutely not, these vocals are far different to the polished album vocals.

Anyone think this performance was a bit weak? James in particular. Probably the worst I've seen of them play live, and they're one of my favourite bands
@winterjargon13 жыл бұрын
All this stupid 'James is miming' conspiracy started in Sunderland the other week. Apparently mackems are so deprived of gigs that they don't recognise live music when the hear it. 1) They're playing the song at a slower speed than the album. 2) James vocal improv at 0.43 3) At 3.52 Believe it or not, mics can actually pick sound up even if the mic is positioned slightly further away from mouth. 4) People... the show is called 'LATER LIVE' .......

Seen it on the tele from around the 2.40 mark, was like watching a car crash. Seemed like he forgot the words, was woefully out of tune, and all this to a U2 backing track dressed as Johnny Borrell singing into a curly homemade lightsaber, jayzus!
