I was diagnosed as a glaucoma suspect in 2019. After researching my medical records turns out I've been a glaucoma suspect since 2015. My eye dr never told me. I'd see him for annual checkups and he'd send me to have tests done and never explained what his findings were. I thought all those tests were simply routine and if something was wrong, he would tell me. He did not. In 2018 I started asking questions which he never answered to my satisfaction. I always felt he was rushing and brushing me off , so for my next annual exam I went to an eye Dr elsewhere. She explained everything she was seeing, what her concerns were and how we should move forward so I'd know what to expect. So happy I changed Drs. Have no idea why the first one never told me I was a glaucoma suspect 7 years ago. That was so mean. Sad what people have to deal with in life.

Yes doctors are so incompetent nowadays and pathetic pieces of. %##~, I’ve been rushed by a doctor I wanted to try because I read online about her education as a doctor, a surgeon, and a researcher. She kept things very short and cut out the exam room the very second she was finished entering my info into the computer. She told me she would prescribe my drops, and that was it . She was like ok and she left the room immediately. It’s about money and how many patients they can see fast enough. PERIOD. if we glaucoma patients lose our sight, well they don’t care,it’s not them She should’ve ask me what position I sleep and if I keep my hard raised. And no rigorous exercise. And stay on a healthy diet. But doctors stopped helping patients in the 1970’s-80’s something. They’re complete garbage now

Trials are finally underway in the U.S. at Stanford and a couple of other universities. They are only looking at preventing progression of glaucoma. Unfortunately they have a long list of criterial that will make you ineligible for the trial. I had epiretinal membreanes removed and was instantly disqualifired because of having that condition. I did go to Switzerland earlier, where the clinic noted my epiretinal membranes and asked if they were going to be treated. My "glaucoma" specialist hadn't bothered to mention them too me! The Swiss doctor suggested I have that work done first and then get the therapy, so he refunded my money. When I came back to the U.S. I fired my "doctor" and found a far better opthamologist who arranged the surgery to my eye and removed my cataracts. He fully supports the neurostimulation therapy and did his best to get me into the local trial. Unfortunately I won't be able to afford to return to Europe for a year and hopefully won't lose much more vision, although the central vision in my right eye is greately impaired. Lesson for American patients. Assume your average eye doctor will be hyperfocused on lowering your eye pressure and has little interest in exploring any alternatives for you. Make the extra effort to find someone open to every alternative. Only you can advocate for yourself in the U.S. factory farm system of "healthcare."

This is from 10 years ago yet after going with my father to several glaucoma "specialists", none of this is still mainstream in the US. It's still just the same old treatments: eye drops and various surgical procedures.

That is true. I know how important neurology exams and neuro treatment is for glaucoma Because glaucoma causes neuro degeneration. Deterioration of the ganglion brain cells. So if we could intervene with the optic nerve and the ganglion cells it is worth a try. But the US is too slow and all they care about is money

Great information . I wish I can go to Germany for my treatment. I was diagnosed with an open angle glaucoma & had a trabeculectomy on my left eye last 2019. I'm planning on going to one of the European centers as soon as I can work out the financing. It's incredibly frustrating that this isn't available somewhere in North America and that we are looking at a 4,000 Euro treatment, plus two weeks lodging and airfare. Mexico would seem an obvious place to start since the FDA in the U.S. will require large scale trials in the U.S. before it can be approved as a therapy. No one has to oversell this. If the results are only partial, they are still the only option for restoring vision in Glaucoma. Researchers and the medical community seem stuck with every new innovation nothing more than another technique for lowering eye pressure, which may slow further damage but does nothing for the loss we've already suffered.

As a person still in his 40s with vision lost entirely in my left eye due to glaucoma and a detached retina, this is the Holy Grail of options. Hello, i have multiple sclerose and my vep test showed that Both nerves are a bit slower. 130 msec. I have no problems with vision. Both eyes 100% with glasses. My problem is is light sensitivivity. Car lights are very bright. Also during daytime. Brake light is also too bright. Is there a treatment? I live in Germany.

Hello im 29 years old from philippines, i have congenital glaucoma just found out last 2006 when my right eye was totally blind.. on 2014, i undergo an ahmed valve implantation to save my left eye, but now i can feel that the situation is getting worst.. im still using travatan and simbranza up to today but its been a year since i last met my doctor because it seems like he cant do anything to lower my IOP (25 last checkup).. please help me..

Hey man , i was 9 year old when it happened, ut started when i was 8. I have gluecoma.lost right eye 95% vision. My suggestion is that go to proper doctor; Tell him everything and when your son will understand everything ask him correctly what he is able to see. Try that he don't lose any vision in future. Some researchers are trying to find a cure if you really care than find out the best one and donate them. Your son will be ok oneday i wish.
