we are continuing our series of glaze reviews with c - 3 smoke from the Amaco Celadon collection.
I wanted to see if it was a clear enough Celadon glaze to see through to the clay body on marbleized work.
the test was fairly positive and to a certain extent it is although it turns out a bit darker.
I wish I knew the bass of the Celadon glaze because it would make a fantastic clear by itself.

Celadons are excellent for carved pieces and do best over a white clay body.

Great video and I’m really enjoying this series! I have this glaze and have used it on a white clay body. It definitely came out smokier and grayer than your result. I see no green in mine. We have the same kiln, but I may have fired it to a different cone. I don’t remember off-hand. Again, great video and thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing. I raw glaze and have been brushing the glazes on finding so far that 4 coats have come out well. I will now try pouring and dipping these brush on glazes to see what the comparisons are when I also brush on too. Iron Lustre which is one of my favourites has previously come out brown when only doing 2 coats or 3 light coats, whereas 4 coats have come out where it breaks well and is really rich. I guess I'll have to wax the bottoms when I dip or pour. Enjoyed the video.....will post picture on Facebook

Maybe because you poured instead of layer brushing? Jars are all for brushing on. Takes longer, but results do turn out different. I have gotten as dark as label with good breaks before.

I just realised a new video ( with a different glaze review) talking about this very thing.

I noticed you pour the glaze onto your mugs wouldn't that be a heavier application than brushing? sure saves time over brushing

You're pouring on a brush on glaze. I'm wondering if that alters how it comes out. Maybe it needs a little higher kiln temperature too (hot Cone 5 or a hold). Not sure what your kiln settings are.

Another great informative video, Donte. I feel like I am getting the value of your pottery education without the cost--thanks for sharing your knowledge and your curiosity! Just a not terribly important observation about the vid, and not the content: the repetitive music in the background is a distraction. A longer riff, perhaps would help? Different piece of music? BUT keep the videos coming!

Can you suggest a celadon glaze which would allow underglaze transfers to show through...best celadon colors? Using a white clay body...stoneware. Thanks!

Very nice work! Did you use wax on the feet of the marbleized cups or just use the sponge? Maybe the glaze acts better at a different temp.? Greetings from Austria! ; )

I thought those were brush-on glazes. I wonder if dipping changed the result.

I know technically they say brush on but..... You can honestly use them interchangeably. If they're too thick just add like 2 oz of water ( the base of most glazes)

Is there a difference between brush on glaze and dipping glaze? Can I dip in a glaze that says brush 2-3 layers?

The one thing that sets the AMACO Celedons apart is the way they break OVER TEXTURE. WITHOUT TEXTURE ON THE PIECE YOU ARE GLAZING, IT'S NOT A REAL TEST OF THE GLAZE!
@EarthNationCeramics
@EarthNationCeramics 3 жыл бұрын
Well, breaking over texture and the ability to see through the opacity it's kind of what makes a celadon a celadon for the family of glaze it's in. But amaco doesn't seem to follow that rule 100% of the time. Take amaco Celadon snow for instance. Amaco breaks the rules alot with the historical nature of glazes and the families they belong to. But it's good marketing to call them celadons.

Osmany Reyes You’ll be able to buy porcelain clay from the same place you get your other clay. Read up on it before you try it, as it behaves quite differently than other clays.
