Cleanest sample, lightweight in each class, simplicity in design. One of the best combines ever built. Had a neighbor who had a r65 and he could get the rotor out of the machine in less than 2hrs. The improvements over the years on these combines can be added to the older ones as well. Great video btp!!!!

@@jordanl7489 You are correct when it comes to Deere or Case etc but with a Gleaner it's not hard to get a clean sample without sacrificing yield. It's the nature of the accelerator rolls and that makes clean samples easy. It allows the majority of the trash to be blown out before it gets to the sieves. Even in an old L it is fairly easy because you have a two stage cleaning fan which blasts the majority of the trash out before it reaches the sieves and you have a visual tailings sample that you can constantly monitor without leaving your seat or bending down to open a door. You just glance to your right and it's right there, no door to open and no stretching to see like an old Deere.

I see very very little left behind in the field by Gleaner combines. Last fall I was filming an S67 in corn. There was barely a kernel to be found out the back. Then I walked through the standing rows of corn to film the return pass saw more corn on the ground from self shelling in the standing rows. I filmed it for a future video 😁

I worked for a harvesting crew in 1987 out of Seward NE, and they ran Gleaner L2's. Due to a staff shortage of people with .... umm. ... driver's licenses ... I mostly drove trucks while we were cutting. But sometimes the owner/dad of this family operation would let me cut the first load or 2 of the long days in KS while he caught up on sleep. They are on Facebook, still cutting wheat, still using Gleaners. The son, who is now the owner, was 13 or 14 when I worked for them. He know his way around those L2's mechanically ... but did not have a driver's license.

My friend's brother in law ran an MH and his uncle ran a GH. This was up in Eastern Washington. Both were hillside combines. The MH seemed a little more average but the GH put out some real clean grain. The uncle said he had a CH in his farm yard he had set aside in case he needed to cut some for seed. Never saw it run but he claimed that CH thrashed so clean he could dump it straight into the seed drills and plant it.

I grew up not far from Reardan, WA. Did you run the dealer in Airway Heights near Spokane? Those Gleaners were nice combines but I think a lot of the farmers that had them went too fast or didn't have them set right because they tended to drop a lot out the back. Some folks called them "Silver Seeders". They sure seemed to run smooth. Really liked the way the unloading auger rotated out to unload.

Spent many hours running a Gleaner L for a friend in Maryland, in grain, corn and soybeans. All the neighbors knew it as the Silver Seeder... Lol. Lots of headaches from the ill conceived electro-hydraulic systems. Most of us greatly preferred the IH axial flow machines of the same vintage. It was easier to get better cleaning with the IH(without sending it all out the back) and it was significantly more reliable and more comfortable to operate.

I would like to hear more of a description on what makes a Gleaner different. And comparisons of their transverse cylinder with the longitudinal axial flow rotor designs (single and twin) of most of the other makes. There must be a reason for the consistently cleaner grain samples year after year. Gleaner has stayed with the transverse cylinder design for a reason.

Gleaners always seem to get a bad wrap, but I've always liked them. I just don't see many Gleaners out where I live. We had an old Gleaner in our fence row that had a fan built into the header? I suppose it was late 50's early 60's vintage? We gave it to a FFA kid that was going to restore it from Nebraska. The old hats call them side hill seeders, but I see the new ones at the trade shows, and I'd take it over any Deere.

If not operated and set up properly they would throw a lot of grain out the back. They had higher capacity to thresh than clean the grain because the cleaning sieves were too small. Gleaner corrected the problem with the “L” series when they lengthened the cleaning shoe. When it would rain after harvest the ground behind the combine would be covered with green wheat plants due to grain being thrown out the back of the machine. It was a joke in my area that if a farmer had a Gleaner they didn’t need a grain drill to plant the next years crop. My father hired a custom cutter crew in the ‘70’s that ran G Gleaners. My job was to follow the machines through the field and check the ground behind the machines for excessive carryover.
@SilverGleaner
@SilverGleaner 4 жыл бұрын
@@jti2007 We never had that problem. Between Dad and my uncles, they ran E, A, AII, G, K, K2, F, F2, M3. Dad quit farming in 1997. Only one cousin left farming and he lives not far from CaseIH dealer. He traded an M3 for a 1640. Was very disappointed, then traded that for a 1666. Much better but then went to a 2166 and was sort of disappointed with reliability then went to an R65 about 4 years ago and says he is glad to be back in a Gleaner. Myself, back in the late 80's and early 90's I ran an E... still have it in the shed. Was a great trouble free machine and I learned how to set it so when I measured field loss I was in the expert zone going by the numbers and using a square to throw behind the combine. No green growth behind that machine! I quit farming until 2010 and then I ran an '81 L2 until a couple years ago. Again a great machine that would out clean and out harvest my buddy's 1660. That sits in the shed waiting for a price jump or for me to plant flowers in it because I won't give it away. Now run a '96 R52 and again Gleaner hits a home run with me!

Same here. My dads first was a Gleaner L or M with a 350v8 gas. He custom ordered his L2 with the 426 diesel, hopper extensions, big tires, headers, in the end it cost more than our new 8550. But it was a beast and really could make time, finest of its time.

One complaint of some of those R Gleamers was the RPMs they were required to push, as you can hear with the R72. I watched an S88 last year and could not believe how quiet it was, really just the noise of threshing. Something to be said for refinement on that level

Best looking combines ever made, sadly we didn't get Gleaners in Europe. Really liked r60 and r75, they look just look so huge and wide and that wide cab roof is also cool feature 😎 It's maybe colour which make these combines look so different, always liked White tractors too, especially 70's and 80's Field Boss-series.

Still have a 1of 2 N6 my dad n grandpa bought brand new in the 80s when they custom harvested.. Has close to 10,000 hrs on it.. Could go to the field anytime to this day.. But havent used it in 10 yrs

I spent the summer of 1985 on an N7 and have put in a few hours on the R60 just like this one. I thought they were comprable to each other, but have not run an R60 enough to make a good comparison. Someone else might have a better answer.

I've always like gleaners, My family had a old m2 and before that a C2. Didn't get to see the m2 in action a whole lot since we switched to beef cattle when I was young. It sat in the shed for about ten years before we ended up selling it and for sitting that long it fired right up it looked like it never aged.

When I was a young kid my Grandpa had an old 1950's Gleaner "F" with no cab. It had what I believe was an inline gas 6-cylinder Chevy engine. That thing was so nasty to ride! We only used it to harvest wheat & soybeans.

Had a 1981 M2 Hydro, to replace our John Deere 7700. I worked at a AGCO Allis Dealer in the late 90’s. We bought the M2 and went through it, replacing bearings and everything else that was wore out. Had a 315 flex header with height control. It felt like you were running a Cadillac compared to the 7700 gear drive. It would bury a 30lb boost gauge and smoke a little, more when you worked it hard. Miss that machine, would be on my list of things to buy if I started farming again.

My father had some of the 1960's model Gleaners . We did not have a combine at all, for about 30 years, until I purchased a 1978 Gleaner L. It runs a 20' grain table with great efficiency in both wheat and soybeans. Our first season with it, in wheat, it seemed to be the one reliable machine we had. I am enamored with Gleaners. I won't have it any other way. Clean sample, light weight, easy operation, simplistic yet efficient design.

That is the way most farms run here in Kentucky. The average yield is 100 bu and the reel is set to ground speed to rake the heavy crop in.

@Kombajnistazbizona 4 жыл бұрын
@@bigtractorpower In Poland, agricultural schools teach something different, the average wheat yield in Poland is about 300-500 bushels per hectare, the straw is high and dense, and every farmer do that if grain is denser, he slower the reel speed. If the reel speed is to high, the ears settle above feeder house, cause grain losses. Just like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH_Fgqdqf96fsLc -- Some ,,PoV'' video from last year with Bizon BS Z110 combine harvesting Triticale (someting between wheat and and rye). Yield was 300 bushels per hectare, dense and straw was hight and thats why he cuting so slow. I know you can`t understand what he saying, but i try to show how we do this in our part of the world, you must visit in the future (after corona) Europe or even Poland :D . And about Gleaners, it`s a pitty they were never avaible in Europe even when Allis make deal with Deutz-Fahr, they so simple for me when i look at them, they should be very popular in Europe.
