These are the kind of sentences that makes the public loose confidence in our judiciary and even accuse it of being captured. I know that every case is treated on its own merit but this lenient sentences doesn't inspire confidence of the public. Bheki Cele was right that police work day and night to bring the perpetrators to book and then they get lenient sentences or even at worse they get bail and police have to work extra hard again to find the perpetrators if they disappear.

A colleague of mine once didn't come to work because there was a shooting in the passages and everyone was afraid to be the first to come out their rooms in case they become labeled as possible witnesses whom are even killed outside the uMlazi Magistrate Court
