Considering how the main cast members are first in the credits, I'm reminded to how the newbies were promoted to regulars this season, yet they were dropped midway through. For a while, I was confused by that until an interview Ryan took part in when he was asked why the show shifted to New York. Two weeks after the newbies were promoted, a very unexpected thing happened that was way out of Ryan's control and anyone's control for that matter.

Ok that was so annoying, and all the alumni were demoted even though in season 4 they had smaller roles and season 5 were focused on everyone in New York and the alumni coming back

I feel like they should have been regulars in s4 as they played a much bigger role than in season five and appeared in all the episodes. Some of the alumni like Mike, puck and Mercedes stayed main cast members in season 4 when they made like 8 appearances and the show was more focused on the newbies. They were demoted to recurring for season 5, and the newbies were promoted. Although the show focused so much on giving the seniors more to do before they graduated the newbies were ignored and the alumni (like Mercedes) kept making appearances like the nationals episode, the tribute, the two episodes that were dedicated to the 100 episode and she was heavily featured especially after moving to New York. Very dumb how they focused more on the recurring characters and treat the main characters like recurring
