The writers of Glee turn the show's storyline when Coach Beiste comes out as male. In this poignant scene at the end of the show, he is shown support from his school community in a touching rendition of "I Know Where I've Been" performed by Unique and backed by a 300-voice choir comprised solely of transgender folks.

The way I cry every time watching this. And great symbolism in my opinion as in where Beiste first walks in you see no one on the stage but Unique showing that sometimes it feels you don't have a lot of support but as you move closer you can see such an amazing group of people there for one another

This may be an unpopular opinion but I don’t like how they decided to do this with Beiste’s character. I love that they wanted to represent the trans community, I just feel they should have picked a different character or brought on a whole new character because the whole thing about Bieste’s character before this season was that they were always a masculine woman but at the end of the day they just wanted to feel pretty and feminine and they wanted love and to be treated like a woman. To me it feels like they completely undermined that story arc by completely changing direction with it like this.

I cry whenever I see this scene. It is so powerful and so close to home on so many levels. Love our Transgender, nb, gen non-conforming brothers, sisters, and siblings. Also, RIP Naya Rivera. Her character inspired so many, including myself, to accept ourselves for who we are. We will forever miss you, but will honor you for our generous amount of work in such small time.

This is amazing, I don't think I've seen anything like this on any other TV show. I got teary eyed watching this and I'm not a part of the trans community, so I' can't even begin to fathom how it must feel for trans people to see this. For a lack of a better word, this is unique.

Most touching performance in my opinion. I think that this may even be more touching than Santana’s solo of, “If I die young.” I think that this may even be more touching than, “Imagine,” from season one, sung by the dead choir and The New Directions!.

Questions: 1. Does transgender mean dressing or feeling like the opposite gender (Unique) or surgically becoming the opposite sex (Beiste). 2. What's the difference between gender, gender dysphoria, and gender identity? 3. I was once told there's no such thing as what's *"officially"* masculine or feminine. Like, your interests and hobbies do not belong in one or the other group, all written in "sided" stone? Is that true? _Shannon_ Beiste liked football and hog wrestling and decided she had gender dysphoria. I don't like sports, tools, or engines, but I consider myself "guy enough". Fashion and makeup bore me, but I like drawing, creative writing, and reading (usually female protagonists, though). I can be emotional and have cried a lot, especially as an 18-year old and older, but only in front of my mom. I only like women (not that I have any problems with gay people). In fact, I feel horrible for these two lesbians who part for five years in this one film (even though "it's just a movie," but let's just I'm cursed with a heart). People feel that romance movies are for women, to make them cry. Thus, I feel weird about myself in this case. Sometimes I feel like I'm not really masculine. Like I'm in between, while totally prefering male pronouns. It's confusing.

Question 1: Transgender can be identified as being assigned to the wrong body while most people do get surgery during their transition you don’t have to in order to be transgender. Question 2: Gender is what you identify as like non-binary, female, male, etc. Gender identity is the personal sense of ones identity and gender dysphoria is the feeling of unease in ones body because you were born into the wrong one. So the difference is gender and gender identity are how you identify but gender dysphoria is feeling and being in the wrong body. Question 3: While that is true people are still going to put labels on things so just don’t listen to them. I’m pretty late but I hope I helped with these questions, if not I can try to elaborate.
