I like how this season showed that the artistic world is really compatitive and a girl from Ohio who can sing really good may be average or even under average compared to what the world has to over. And then they invited her to the winter showcase (which was already bullshit IMO) AND let her win it. I know she had to go to the winter showcase for Kurt's story line, but still why let her win.

First half of the comment is correct. Second half about Rachel isn’t. Yes in general Rachel is self centered but she didn’t realize Cassie had some faith in her not because she was narcissistic but because you can’t suddenly understand that when someone is only trying to bring you down publicly instead of offering you constructive criticism like they’re supposed to.

@@alexandrabrown068 Oh come on, even at the glee club, Rachel believed she deserved all the solos and would literally jump on their neck every time someone asked for the same thing or if Mr. Shue wanted to give it to someone else, just because she didn't like being reminded that she wasn't the only star in that room. She took it literally as a personal offense. No one can say any criticism to her without Rachel taking it the wrong way and if they do she makes faces as if they are physically punishing her. I agree, the attacks against her, like the bullying she suffered, may have made her more defensive and less tolerable with people when it came to something from the choir, but that does not mean that she has the right to believe herself better than others or wanting to trample them to get to the top (such as what she did to Sunshine, which is almost psychopathic) She cannot live closed in on herself all her life, without realizing that she is not as perfect as She believes, also she knows that she is in that class to learn, not to direct others or want to go over her teacher (and she should remember that she was very close to not being there) Also, we're talking about Rachel, isn't she supposed to know that no one there is going to treat her with silk gloves? and that they are going to try to squeeze their talents as far as they can? Did she go there without knowing how is the world of entertainment that she has been dreaming of for so many years or how hard it is?

My husband was in room when i watched this scene and I literally said same thing to him. Rachel never ever dances in any of the songs, except for a couple of basic moves. Im guessing its cause Lea can't dance. Instead they have everyone around her dancing, lots of face close ups and then pan the camera off her when it needs to be harder dancing, because they have to keep the illusion shes been doing dancing since she was 3. They do similar with Kurt also.

@Threeleebird4 жыл бұрын
Because her parents did not raise her so that she had self-criticism. Even her mother, Idina Menzel, told her that she was really, really good. How could she accept criticism from others other than a personal offense if the most important people in her life always treated her like a star without ever bothering to make her receptive to other points of view? That plus the fact that she considered herself the best voice of the glee club made her deaf to the comments that could get her out of her illusion. So Rachel never got better and just stagnated.

This carried over into NYADA where she shouldn't have gotten in at all but Carmen took pity on her for fucking up her audition. The people in Rachel's life can't tell her no when it counts. She cries and/or gets vindictive when she doesn't get her way or when people tell her about herself. Hence why she can't handle people like Santana or Cassandra. Honestly, this is one of the scenes that really made me dislike Rachel. But I can't put all the blame on her. She was told she was amazing, the best singer in the school, and that no one could beat her. Shu coddled her. She didn't have to put in much effort for her to get the spotlight in McKinley. She was the Big Fish in a tiny pond, so once she got out into the ocean, she wasn't prepared for the sharks and whales. But thanks to Cassandra, instead of backing down and getting eaten, she adapted, and she grew teeth. She got brighter to scare off predators, and she refused to be fodder. Although, she was in the wrong during this. I was in a musical once, and if you stopped in the middle of practice, you were out. She needed to work on her stamina, and Cassandra was not there to coddle her. Cassy was there to make her better, and so that's what she did. Sure, she could have been nicer about it, but then it wouldn't have been as effective. Rachel is the kind of person that takes criticism as more of a challenge or a dare, than something upsetting.

@@Threeleebird she wasn't dumb. She was smart in other ways. Rachel is delusional. She couldn't seem to pick up on the fact that just because she was the "best" in her area of OHIO, that doesn't exactly transfer to BROADWAY... at least not yet. She got into the school on the merit of her talent sure, but it's a SCHOOL, where you TRAIN and GET BETTER, not to already be the best which she never was. She was "trying" and "working hard" but clearly at a level that's not letting her catch up to the rest. Dance-wise everyone in the class was at an expert level and she was on beginner/intermediate. A single rep for an expert equals 10 reps for a beginner/intermediate level. That's the point Cassandra was trying to make. She's not good enough YET, but she will be if she put in at least twice the amount of effort she thought she was.

What if the reason that not only did Rachel fight so hard to get solo's during Glee club was not only because she wanted to be in the spotlight 24/7, but because she wasn't as strong as a dancer as she was a singer? Think about it every episode for the past three seasons, she has boasted to everyone that she was a prodigy in both dancing and singing but not once did she actually show her dancing in it's prime, it was always her voice that she only wanted to showcase.

@alexandriacanaan81653 жыл бұрын
Okay, so when I was younger I remember thinking she owned this performance. Looking back and watching it now…yeahh. Her voice is amazing, we all already knew that though. Her saying “I’m just as good of a singer” she’s right, she’s a better singer, but this is a dance class. To be on Broadway for a long career you need to eventually know how to own a dance number or have good stage presence. Cassie may not have had as good of a voice but she was confident and her dancing was amazing and professional level and it was so much fun to watch her. Whereas with Rachel it was clear that she was mainly concerned with her voice and it kept her from reaching full potential. You could see it on her face, all she was thinking about was “I’ve got a better voice” and not “I am this character right now, I am confidence and flexible and sexy and I know how to own a dance routine”. She was just being plain old high school girl Rachel. She is a beautiful girl but sexiness is about confidence, just look at Santana, she knows she’s hot and has fantastic stage presence that is incredibly fascinating and entertaining to watch. Rachel is obviously still carrying insecurities from high school when she was never the hot girl and is now trying to cover it up with makeup and tiny outfits and professional dancers around her doing the real heavy lifting trying to distract from the fact that she isn’t doing much of anything. I remember when Santana did the Cold Hearted performance and you couldn’t take your eyes off of her, her energy and confidence were infectious. The problem with Rachel is not the way she looks, she’s very pretty, but she does not really believe in herself to be able to carry a performance with more than just her voice. In one of her vocal classes or in a musical like Funny Girl where there is little to no dancing or movement, she can rely on her strong voice and her true personality. But in a DANCE class that is trying to teach you how to tell a story with just your body, you have to be able to demand attention without saying/singing a word. That’s what Cassie was trying to teach her and that’s what Rachel was too stubborn and egotistical to learn. She got frustrated when she couldn’t use smoke and mirrors like she did all throughout high school and she through a fit and blamed it on her PROFESSIONAL PROFESSOR being jealous of her. She has never been told she didn’t have talent or that there were areas she was weak in because Mr. Shue spent so much time kissing her ass and making her think she was better than everyone so when she got into the real world and no one was all that impressed by a girl that can sing (which is a dime a dozen) she was butt hurt about it. Santana is the full package because not only is her voice strong but she demands to be noticed, she is confident that she could carry a performance herself and even if she is in a group she is the one everyone will stare at. Rachel makes you feel things when she is singing her heart out, but so does Santana. Santana can also make you feel things and understand what she is saying by dancing and moving, Rachel can’t do that. She could have learned to if she had been patient and humble and listened to her advisors but she freaked out and ran away. She’d rather live in delusion believing there is nothing imperfect about her talent than to admit she needs to work. The one thing I constantly see when people talk about Rachel is how she had an amazing voice but all of her performances were the same (just stand there and sing and sob) so they skipped them when she’d perform. It’s funny, people used to call Mercedes lazy for not wanting to work on her performances and her craft until it was perfect and all she’d do is stand there and belt and have crazy runs and riffs, but Rachel gave up as soon as she received criticism from someone who knows what they are talking about. Mercedes still had a way of entertaining without having intricate dances.

And yeah-Cassandra is clearly annoyed but I think she actually enjoys their spats. Rachel doesn’t realize she’s helping her usually until right after every spat. And here’s the thing Rachel Berry is gorgeous. She’s not traditional blonde hair, blue eyes “American or Nazi Germany look” she’s unique. Her skin tone is stunning. Cheekbones, muscles, eyes....LM is damn attractive. Also I really wish she and KH danced together more. Their “I hate you but want your approval” has some undertones.
