the thing i hate most about glee is when they make a character become so incredible and amazing and likeable, they ruin it for no reason. rachel was ambitious and driven and loyal, and then they made her act completely out of character and give up something she always wanted. they ruined so many good characters who had real substance (tina, quinn, sam, santana)

@Nahuel that’s nonsense. The original actor hasn’t been hired. She’s still in the show. She is merely leaving the show at the end of her contract, the same as Jane Lynch is. Both agreed to do a six month run. Had the reviews been better, would Feldstein have stayed longer? Who can say buy to say she has been fired is simply untrue. And the rumours of Lea Michelle taking over are just that, rumours. There is no official source. A few years ago there is no way she would take a job as a replacement but after her career has nose dived the way it has there is the possibility she might. It’s very unlikely however that there is any truth to the rumour it’s even being discussed.

What a pity that some producer with good sense (and a ton of money) didn't think to put Lea Michele in a revival of Funny Girl on Broadway. Instead, we got some girl named Beanie, whose singing voice is limited and often irritating. Had Lea been cast, she would have brought the house down at every performance, and the show would have lasted a very long time. It would have made EVERYONE a ton of money. There are a number of better renditions of this number here on YT, including the one by Barbra's understudy. That said, she is sooooo much better than Beanie on her best day. I just wish she wasn't trying to be Barbra in all the songs I've heard her sing. Happy to see the Funny Girl revival getting revived again. Break a leg, Lea. You're getting your childhood dream and no one can take that from you. Also, Jane is leaving early because she is being replaced by Tovah Feldshuh who will start on the same night as Lea. Jane is leaving a few weeks early, it didn't make sense for her to stay on.

I hate Rachel but she definitely didn’t deserve this I’m sorry but she acted like a brat when things didn’t go her way and it was allowed for years and then she got everything handed to her like another chance at NYADA where as Kurt did his audition without messing up and still didn’t get in, Mercedes who was the strongest singer was pushed to the back, all of the others were pushed to the back for her and Finn, she acted like a brat but would never get in trouble for it, and then she quit NYADA and the show in order to pursue her tv show so I’m sorry I want to be happy but I just can’t because of everything she did before and then continued to do after

No I completely agree with everything you said, everything was given to her on a silver platter, she got too many second chances. I wish she would have gone to a community college or somewhere small to humble her, instead of NYADA, making her work to get what she wanted. I hated the storyline of Carmen suddenly realizing she had talent from the nationals performance and allowing her in because Jessie buttered her up. Kurt had to audition AGAIN even with a great and original performance, which is harsh, but fairly realistic. She somehow got on broadway even though she was a diva to her dance teacher who was, although rude at some points, a great teacher to her and made her work just as hard as everyone else. She had the opportunities to teach/coach the New Directions, she had a good job at the diner, she had rich dads who supported her and shared rent with a couple roommates, she had it so good but always always ALWAYS took it for granted to achieve the next big thing.

Thin vocals and the performance was very stylized and unnatural. It came off as a poor attempt to copy Streisand more than anything else. If you're going for a Streisand imitation, a Minnie Mouse voice isn't the way to go.

This version has Lea too full of herself. Fanny, here, is suppose to be desperate, trying to sell her talent to the theater owner to get on stage. With Lea, she acts as if she and everybody else already knows she's the grestest star. The audience can't root for someone who is that full of themselves. Whoever directed Lea in this song didn't understand what she was suppose to accomplish with this song. She was suppose to get the audience on her side with her hidden raw talent, not alienate them with her arrogance. Not even close to Barbra's brilliance! (More than a powerful voice is necessary to make a great musical theater performance.)

Fanny Brice isn't just a voice, she is a comedian. That's who she always was that's why she had a career. And her career started because she was willing to make a complete fool of herself. Rachel doesn't strike me as the type to be good at that. So yes she sounds great, but the performance felt hollow, and just wasn't funny.

She can sing but I get the feeling that she will probably put on a performance as Barbra as Fanny instead of just Fanny. Which even though Beanie is most definitely not a great actress at least she was playing Fanny. This is the issue with Funny Girl it's Barbra's show. It's not like Wicked where you know Kristin and Idina but there are 100's of Elphies and Glinda's (some of which trump the OBC). The same with Phantom. I don't think we ever see any other characters acting, only 'being themselves' so you have nothing to compare this with - Lea's portrayal of Rachel was maybe the most varied and subtle at times of anyone in the show - Santana only has two registers in all her six seasons (not Naya's fault, it's the writers no giving her enough variety) plus Naya almost never moves her face ! It's true ! She only has three expressions per episode.

i don’t even like Rachel, but this performance was amazing and she really was born to play Fanny. i would’ve loved to see more scenes of Rachel performing in Funny Girl spanning several episodes, but for some reason the show decided to make her throw away her childhood Funny Girl ‘dream’ for a tv show and i don’t understand why they destroyed the only storyline of Rachel’s that i enjoyed, and the only one that justified her near-cutthroat ambition and at times awful personality.

Thank you👏👏👏 These first like 60 seconds where she's walking down the halls silently, one cut/shot, little music, silent expect for the vocal warm ups and a sort of tense feel. Then the curtain goes up and the lights hit. We all get the sense of "she got there". By far one of my favorite theatrical moments in the whole show. and the writers absolutely trashed it. As someone who has worked to put on shows and performances, that feeling of lights, of being on stage, oh my god, especially after a hard climb, it's is not worth giving up for any tv show. Realistically, Rachel would not have given that up.

Rather than the TV show I would’ve liked it if they had shown Rachel unable to cope with the pressure, not of just performing but also being recognised and maybe (although not nice to see) lead to a breakdown which would’ve been a more natural fit for someone who in a few months lost the love of her life, got the leading role on a Broadway musical and dropped out of NYADA. Her life changed incredibly quickly and her going home to reflect and support the new Glee club would’ve been a better storyline and actually allow the viewer to sympathise with her. The fact that she gets bored and chooses the TV show over Funny Girl is probably the most unnatural thing Rachel would ever do.
