Brian wrote this for Glen to thank him for standing in as a temporary Beach Boy. And here we are nearly 60 years later, listening and marveling at these two musical giants whose music never grows old or stale. Beautiful as ever, maybe more than ever before 🏆✨🎶👏

Martinjp, you are so right. Brian Wilson's music so perfectly captured the human heart yearning for love that is rarely illustrated by music on television or rock radio today. Andy Partridge of XTC is able to capture the same emotion on songs like I Can't Own Her, Harvest Festival and Rook but not enough people celebrate that type of gorgeous sound these days. Jobim and also Frank Loesser (with songs such as My Time Of Day, I've Never Been In Love Before and Warm All Over) had the same touch.

Sing on in Heaven Glen , you knocked it outta the park with this one !

in fact this is early signs of Brian Wilson preparing the sound and the mood of what would become the 1966 album Pet Sounds. backing vocals are by the highly known The Honeys, a three girls group of which Marilyn Rovell was Brian's wife. Brian co-wrote this tune with Russ Titelman, who also participated with Brian Wilson in his 1988 solo come back album.

@@doobeedoo2- While I would indeed agree that Glen became more polished as a singer/entertainer with voice in its finest form ever on the hits he became famous for; however feel that his performances showed more authenticity when focused more on his gift as a musiciana playing the hell out of his guitars and banjo, truly more in his element than as a star of those over produced numbers with syrupy string orchestras and horns. Had he come of age in the late 60s, by which time he was already 30, Campbell may have likely gravitated toward displaying the musicianship he was so gifted at growing up backed by similarly talented support musicians on the kind of instruments more in line with that of his background instead of the treacly accompaniments that dominated what too often became over produced pop hits, not that he didn't sing them beautifully.

Brian didn't write this for Glen. Brian wrote this track for the "Today!" album but the other members of the band were too insecure to sing a song about being dumb, so Brian offered it to Glen as a thank you for filling in for him on the road. Given to, not written for, Glen.
@gertvangelder12 жыл бұрын
@ Som, yes it's somewhat the same style of music. the percussions are equally important in the opening of both tunes "Caroline No" and "Guess I'm Dumb". by the way, the echo effect on the drum slam in Caroline No was achieved by Hal Blaine hitting the drum stick to a cannister filled with water, while Brian Wilson created an echo effect on it. it gives us a hollow drum slam which might even leave us with some exotic feeling too.
