Glen Campbell was THE MAN, now I realize why my mom loved him so much!
@Squee_Dow3 жыл бұрын
There's a place deep inside my heart/my soul/my inner being that only Glen Campbell can touch. I never knew it before he passed because I didn't pay that close attention to him or his music. It's not that didn't like him. I could sing along with all his hits, but I, a collector of vinyl, never bought one. After his passing, I came here to KZbin to pay my respects and found a treasure trove of Glen Campbell performances. Within a couple of days, I was changed. No one moves me like he does, whether it's a ballad that breaks your heart or a guitar solo that thrills every nerve ending in your body, whether it's fast or slow, serious or funny, his own hit or a cover -- Glen's my all-time favorite performer, and I didn't know it until August of 2017.

Glen Campbell was so talented. His guitar playing was extraordinary!!! You add his wonderful voice to it all and you have quite a delivery. Yes, I was kissed afew times by Glen because I was in the 1st row at a county fair & kept running back & forth to Glen for harmless kisses, but he was such a good sport. ❤️I would do it again, but walk a bit slower now! RIP to Glen Campbell, who brought some of the best written (Jimmy Webb) music, but sang by a man who played his heart out for his fans. Gone way too soon.

If you go away on this summer day then you might as well take the sun away All the birds that flew in the summer sky When our love was new and our hearts were high When the day was young and the nights were long And the moon stood still for the night bird's song If you go away if you go away if you go away But if you stay I'll make you a day like no day has been or will be again We'll sail the sun we'll glide on the rain we'll talk to the trees and worship the wind Then if you go I'll understand leave me just enough love to fill my hand If you go away if you go away if you go away If you go away as I know you will you must tell the world to stop turning Till you return again if you ever do for what good is love without loving you Can I tell you now as you turn to go I'll be dying slowly till the next hello If you go away if you go away if you go away If you go away as I know you must there'll be nothing left in the world to trust Just an empty room full of empty space like the empty look I see on your face I'd have been the shadow of your shadow If I thought it might have kept me by your side If you go away if you go away if you go away But if you'll stay I'll make you a night like no night has been or will be again I'll sail on your smile I'll glide on your touch I'll talk to your eyes that I love so much But if you go I know I will cry and all the good is gone from the word goodbye If you go away if you go away if you go away please don't go away

This beautiful song was originally written in French, and the translation has a different meaning. I absolutely love glen Campbell! He was a studio artist, playing guitar for a lot of the famous 60's bands before they let him sing and play for us. He earned every bit of his fame by hard work and pure talent. I remember hearing this song first when I was 5 in our old Honda van, and my dad had a large collection of cassette tapes because the car had a cassette player. One was a Glen Campbell tape. This song started playing and it suddenly woke me from a nap I was having in the car. I loved it so much. I never thought that 15 years later, I’d find the song again. It helped me get through a dark place that I was in a few years ago. I owe my thanks to Glen.

I originally found this video on KZbin posted by another user. I have searched for that user again, but they no longer have a channel here that I can find. So, I cannot take credit for originally posting this, though I am very glad I re-posted it (especially in light of Glen’s passing). Based on many of your comments, it seems that those who haven’t listened to Glen's voice in awhile, or those who have never heard him sing before, are coming to understand that he was very much underrated as a singer. He should be remembered as more than just a guitar virtuoso, because he was a man of many talents. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease and I am so sad at his passing. I sincerely hope some day in the near future we can find a cure for this disease.

A talent such as his is rare and that a choice few have known. I grew up listening to his music, watching the tv shows, movies...at a time when music was such an importance in my life. His music, still today triggers memories from long ago, and brings out feelings from deep inside, from a place that makes me shake my head in wonder at it's ability to rattle my soul. His music will always remain with me, and i know his passing will bring tears, but Glen Campbell will always be "Gentle on my mind."
