Glen Scotia Double Cask Campbeltown Single Malt Review

So just found a bottle of this at a small shop I hadn’t explored before. Cracked it open and wow throughly impressed. The three of us described the nose/taste as a really fancy Hot Cocoa. One with Nutmeg and Cinnamon and crème. Like a 22$ hot chocolate/cocoa. Great stuff. Definitely dessert dram.

This was my gateway whisky and it got me into exploring Campbeltown. I went from this to Kilkerran 12, and that is still my favourite whisky.

Check! I finally got to this Double Cask. Unexpectedly enjoyable! 👍 I would add some figs at the nose notes and a woody dryness with a few drops of water. Tastewise it is better without water, though. Great for rainy days! 😀

Drinking Glen Scotia Campbeltown Harbour right now and it really is a perfect dram in every possible way. Lovely nose and taste. instantly propelled to become my new all-time favorite whisky. Sweet, vanilla, warming, syrup sponge, complex, medium-bodied. Like a Speyside but lighter. I don't taste any peat or smoke. Cheers me dears. On offer at £23. I think I will go back and buy it all.

Glen scotia was the last Campbeltown I tried, it was the victoriana. It is a delightful dram, lots of complexity and not too sweet. Not so sure about the double cask after hearing how sweet it is, think ill save my money and try and get a bottle of the victoriana. You mentioned they have peated versions, what is their peatiest?

I think the peatiest ones they do are usually some of the limited editions like the festival releases, some of them have been really good! The Victoriana is also excellent!

My (Jen) dogs come to work with me most days! Sometimes they join in, sometimes they just have a snooze! Glad they made you smile!😊 We have the Double Cask for £38 and you'll usually find it around that, its a really good value for money dram!

The 15 is great too! We've not tried the Nectar D'or in a long time actually, might need to compare, I'd say from memory its a bit sweeter with less spice and without the coastal note.

Honestly I don't know what to make of this whisky. Blind tasting I ranked it poorly. In a face-off I ranked it top. In both cases it got better the longer I left it. In face-off I did add water eventually which helped. All in all, this Glen Scotia won't be replaced.

Glen Scotia Double Cask is an NAS bottling that leaves most big-name 12-year-olds trailing in the dust. It really is good stuff!
