Great review Jason! Can’t get the 9 or 10 here in States yet. Batch 8 is on the West Coast. I have a store that still has a few Batch 5’s! (Btw, as I go down the bottle the Bunna 12 2023 has gotten softer and sweeter. It seems to have shown more Sherry for some reason! Excellent!) Love your reviews and I learn so much! Thank you! Neal

Interesting. The only batch I have open is #7. I found it very hot and it has not been tried for a while. It's just past the shoulder and I'll revisit. Mental note made re the #10 and will see if there's any sales on.

Bunnahabhain 12 cask strength ( 2022 ) is a favourite of mine & feel it`s a great alternative.

but the Glenallachie 10 CS Batch 10 costs about 25€ less than Bunnahabhain 12 cask strength ( 2022 )

Great review, Jason! So far I've tasted batches 3 and 6 and liked them alot. Especially batch 6. Until a couple of days ago the most recent batch available in Bulgaria was 7 when batch 10 arrived and I immetiately grabbed a bottle. The 8 and 9 won't make it ti our market, as it seems. I'm glad to see your high appraisal for batch 10 and even considered getting a second bottle, but in the end I havr too many bottles of whisky I haven't even tasted so I'll stay with just one bottle of this batch 10. As for the potential rival of Glenallachie 10 CS I can't think of any at least in Bulgarian market. I paid roughly 56.25 euros for Batch 10. Considering the quality this makes it extremely good value. Cheers!

im not GA fan and sherry this style as well with few exeptions. 12yo didnt like 8yo i liked. Only CS batch i try is 9 and was right my alley. cheers J 🥂🙋🏻‍♂️ p.s. you 101% right Jason about integreated alcohol and silky texture. i drink it never wiht water added and it tasted like a sweet juice. Really dengerously drinkable. yummy. 🥂🥂🥂🙋🏻‍♂️

I can't verify, but at least in terms of publicity statements I believe GlenAllachie used to claim they didn't originally intend to release a 10yo cask strength. They claimed they just liked the results when tasting the re-racked casks so much that they decided to release some as such. And the success of it has resulted in the frequent new editions (batches) and expansion of size of those releases. Other reviewers also suggest batch 7 was an outlier, they claim because of a greater influence from ex-Rioja casks, subsequently dialled down somewhat--or maybe Oloroso/PX/virgin oak dialled up? Jason: you've earlier noted the dramatic reduction in production from GlenAllachie. One point to note is that the earlier high production was largely aimed at supplying blends, whereas now I think their much-reduced production is all aimed at single malt releases? ---- Addendum: do we really think GA are still using the same vintage(s) of whisky for 10yo CS, batch 10, as they used when beginning with batch 1? That's I think what you're saying, Jason, when you discuss the idea of progressively longer and longer cask finishing periods. Maybe, as you say, batch 1 was 8yo ex-bourbon put into active casks for a 2-year finish, but is batch 10 really 6yo ex-bourbon put into a 4-year finish, or even (not quite sure of the years/numbers) 4yo ex-bourbon put into a 6-year finish? If so then the active nature of those finishing casks may well become a problem, over-dominating the spirit. The customary industry answer for that is to use progressively less-active casks for longer aging, but does GA 10 CS batch 10 seem like a product of somewhat less-active finishing casks? I haven't tried it but from whiskytube reviews including yours I somehow suspect not. So maybe instead batch 10 is still 7-8 year old ex-bourbon put into active finishing casks for 2-3 years, similar to the 8yo +2 for batch 1? That would then allow GA to move through subsequent years' production with successive batches, rather than be stuck only with the same vintage(s) first used with batch 1. ---- Another addendum: OK, I got myself a bit tangled with the vintages, above, sorry. But the bit about later batches being perhaps 6 years ex-bourbon and 4 years active finishing, or even 4+6, I think still stands. I guess the question becomes: when BW took ownership of GA, did he re-cask *all* the ex-bourbon casks into active casks for finishing in that first year, or were only a portion of the casks re-racked, with additional casks re-racked into active finishing casks on an ongoing/progressive/sequential basis, perhaps working through successive vintages in the cellars?

@@WhiskyJason1 yes prices are just ridiculous here in Australia. Between 200 and 240 for batch 8 of the Cask strength. Tax on a litre of alcohol is about 90 dollars and rising. Plus the hype of these bottlings.
