Those market buildings are actually the former zeppelin hangars from the WW I . They've been brought from the small town of Vaiņode in West Latvia and erected here in 1926.

Hey, thanks for the great vid. The city's population is depleting mostly on paper. People are getting richer and building private houses just outside the Riga's borders. When I was a kid everything around Riga was forests and meadows basically. Now everything you see 10-20 km outside Riga's borders are private houses, streets and cars.

Thanks, great episode. The city population dropped because the Soviet military left. They were 200K across the whole country with a large concentration in Riga. This was good.

I have always liked and watched this channel, but would have liked to see more of the two traveling around Japan. The footage of the two of them in Japan was great, immersive, like watching a movie. But I look forward to seeing the two of them having fun in different countries in the future.

I agree, Japan is such a beatiful country with lots of stuff to do. Especially the van life is what I really enjoyed experiencing together with Glenn and Mado. There's also much more to see in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. They have only scratched the surface of Japan. They hinted towards the last episode that they would like to revisit Japan. I for one will be thrilled to see them return, but I could imagine this won't be anytime soon as they just left this month. Maybe we will see Japan in the winter together with them, that would be lovely.

I heard a rumour, that it is very trippy in the mens restroom in Radison Blu Skyline caffe. Especially if you get the stall by the window. I am a woman so I don't know, but one of my guy friends said that he felt like he was peeing all over Riga.

Not only migration. Also low birthrates and high levels of suburbanisation. Some areas around Riga tripled their population in the last decade. Few towns got city status now.

@@GlenAndMado latvian market workers from old times have this habit of scamming foreigners they think they cannot read the sign on the product and always tells u double the price because theres a saying that ure extremly lucky if foreigner wants to buy stuff from you since theres a belief that any foreigner is very rich and wont mind paying more 🤣🤣🤣 i always feel so frkn bad when i see people getting scammed makes me feel embarassed as well since i have feeling that u(tourists) will think we all are scammers since we are smol country. But oh well cant do anythin about it... btw Riga market also shop prices are higher than other cities strawberries in my local market usually cost around 3 euro/kg but only in summer when its the strawberry season.

It's not really a Riga, it's a tourist center. We rarely go there. If you want to see real city, you need to go to plavnieki, purvciems, kengarags
@GlenAndMadoАй бұрын
thanks for letting us know, we only stopped in Riga for a quick 2 day trip.

Purvciems, where the majority are russians? no, thank you. Just go to Agenskalns or Tornakalns where latvians are the majority
@antoineoleander81926 күн бұрын
@@GlenAndMado Not true what he said. Plavnieki, Purvciems, Kengarags are buit by russians for russians in time of occupation. And now mostly russians live there, especially at Kengarags. More interesting and real is city around Old Town, and on other bank of the river. As someone mentioned already, Agenskalns, Tornakalns are much more interesting and real.
@MrsUnderwriter17 күн бұрын
😂😂😂 better do not go there. Soviet brutalism and little USSR. Besides- city centre is ALSO the city. I do not wonder Pļavnieki does not want to go to nice District of Rīga. They hate it tidy and beautiful.

In Latvia, you get a fine in 15 minutes, if you are at the sea in the wrong place at the wrong time, a fine from 100 to 1000€, be careful. you can be fined €30 for parking your car near the store.
@antoineoleander81926 күн бұрын
If you leave your car where it's forbidden, for sure you'll receive fine. In every country :D And it's something new for me, as a local, about fines being at sea. Can you please tell a little bit more? Where did you receive this fine?
