Glencadam Reserva Andalucia REVIEW: My thoughts on their NEW RELEASE

I just tried this at a Robert Burns tasting - Zoom edition - put on by a local retailer. It was featured alongside the Tomintoul 'Seiridh' which is also sherry finished and a sister distillery on, I suspect, the same marketing plan. I think I liked it a little better than you did, probably because it was better than the Tomintoul version and also because it was bottled at 46% compared to the Tomintoul at only 40%, but couldn't help thinking that it was somewhat contrived and that the 10 year old would be the better whisky - based on a bottle I had a few years ago.

Amazing how a whisky's company can have an effect on our enjoyment. Glad to hear you liked it more than me! Not sure I like the sound of this "Seiridh!"

Glencadam and Tomintoul are sister distilleries as in owned by the same company. Their websites look like they were designed by the same team. Both the Seiridh (the Gaelic word for sherry and pronounced Sheh Ree) and the Glancadam reserve are finished in oloroso casks and both websites refer to their master distiller hand picking the best oloroso casks from Andalucia, as if it is a new thing. Anyway, call me a bit of a cynic but I have to roll my eyes when two distilleries come up with same marketing plan.

Thanks for the review! I just finished a trip to Scotland and loved this whiskey. Unfortunately, I didn't grab a bottle and I live in California. Any suggestions of similar tasting whiskeys that may be more accessible to someone in California? Thank you!

Glad you enjoyed the trip! Have you had the Glencadam 10? I believe it's got wider distribution, and for me it's a huge step up! 🥃

You need to add a surprising amount of water to this and generally all glencadam whisky in order to access its true nature, a long time in the glass is also required, give it a try before you regret drinking it.

I'll try that the next time I have it, although for the same price I'm much more inclined to reach for the 10 yr old.

Actually I find the cheaper "Origin 1825" more enjoyable.
