Glenmorangie 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review
This is one we have not tried in a good while at least! But another pub classic. We realised the orangy label also reflects the orangy flavour! Our conclusion that this is a good staple, a nice beginner whisky, whether that's the beginning of the evening or the beginning of your whisky journey! And definitely a good one for a summer's day or for cocktails!

There is nothing wrong with the GM10. Could be the biggest compliment and or insult at the same time…for me it’ll always have a place on my shelf as it was a gateway whisky on my journey.

I definitely pick up orange blossom on the nose. When I lived in Southern California, I would pass by orange groves on my way home from work and the aroma of the orange blossoms on the trees always reminded me of Gelmorangie.

I had the Signet, 10, 18 and 19 years. The 19 I like the most, in the end of the taste a little mint is hidden in there, mind blowing how the distillers get that done.

This and Glenfiddich 12 are the gateway whiskies of single malt Scotch!

Not for me, I found the taste wasn't too strong in any direction enough to capture my interest! Peat for me made me realise how much distinctive flavour whisky can hold. Glenmo and Glenfiddich are perfectly nice but they never made me be like wow I need to try more of this whisky stuff. Just my two pence! Everyone's different of course.

It's not out of the question for some people to be immediately drawn to the more challenging Islay things just not the norm from most people I have met that are into single malt

Light, nice, and yes, smooth. I just had this tonight, along with Old Pulteney 17, Redbreast 12 CS and Glendronach 21. Sometimes it’s nice to go back to the lighter side of things to really appreciate the heftier ones. Cheers, ladies!

Glenmorangie was the single malt that got me into whisky to start with, so always have a bottle in for sentimental reasons. My favourite GM releases are Quinta Ruben and Signet. Tale of Cake was a lovely drop too.

I am just finding my whisky feet at 59 years of age. GM10 is an easy drinker but agree with your comments in the main. One of the better single malts available in the supermarket IMHO

The 10 is the base for the most of their core range so it a good one for a beginner to understand the base spirit in their line up. I find the 18 a bit lacking as well where as most of their finished stuff is good. What Dr Bill Lumsden did with the Tale of Cake was great and I'm now looking out for the Tale of Forrest that was just released. Great video as always, Cheers!

Heard about this one! It sounds really different and unusual. I think it had a bit of bother getting past the Scotch Whisky Association at first. I suppose its a similar idea possibly to the Mackmyra Svensk Rok.

The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Y (Port Cask Finish) (46%) (unchill and nat. colour) - is a nice one. Great review - but too "watery" for me :-)

Like this 10 for what it is. Not a fan of the 12-14 year old ones that have even harder to pronounce names where they take this base 10 and finish it in various casks. Would love to see a Whisky geek version of the 10 at 50% ncf nc as a core range bottle. Cheers ladies

What would you recommend as a similar profile upgrade from the 10 yr? Aside from the finished ones, Lasanta, Quinta ruban, etc. I was thinking Glencadam or maybe Arran 10, but I'm not 100%...asking for a friend.

We didn't get the new boxes yet here in Romania. But the Glenmorangie 10 went nicely with some chinese food in the last days of this summer. I have nothing against it. 🙂 I've even tried their Quinta Ruban after that. 46%, non chill filtered, decent stuff.

Interesting. I've never had GM10 but all this time I thought it was unpeated. I'm still new to whisky tasting (< 2 years) so I don't think I'm ready for a lot of smoke. I do have an Ardbeg 10 which I like. But other smoky scotches I've tried don't seem to appeal to me.

Oh, probably Tomatin, Glen Scotia, maybe and Ardbeg wee beastie for something peaty? Oh and definitely some indy bottlings for something good value for money and interesting!

I get some rye spices - could it be aged in high-rye bourbon barrels? Very pleasant, but I wonder if the owners know it's on the watery side since they release it at 43% elsewhere

Most of the world gets GM10 at 40%, and same for others like HP12, etc. Not certain but it may only be North America that gets it at 43% because of US law. Similar story with 700 vs. 750ml bottles, although I think the latter may have been relaxed during covid as others have reported seeing 700ml bottles in the US and wondering if they were being short-changed.

Glenmorangie 10 is a bit too light once you've gone to the dark, sherry'd side. "The sun shines through this whiskey" is a very nice way of putting it. The Tale of Cake is the only GM we've thoroughly enjoyed, but Tale of Winter didn't maintain and was too damn deep in the feints. You should see if you can get a bottle or case of Found North whiskey at your shop. 16 to 20 yesr plus Canadian rye and corn whiskey blend, using casks from ex-speyside to virgin Hungarian Oak (where tokaji is from). A far better use of 100 dollars a bottle if you ask me.

Until Jen said "giraffe", and I realized she was imitating one at 2:07, I thought 'Oh, that poor girl is having an "episode"'. Glenmorangie, or GlenmorANGEE with a hard G as I've heard it pronounced, is a whiskey you would find in the dictionary if you looked up "nice" or "fine". I used to recommend Monkey Shoulder to beginner Scotch drinkers since it was a minor investment in case they didn't like Scotch. Then the secret got out and the price of Monkey Shoulder increased to the point it was equivalent to single malts. So I instead began recommending Naked Grouse and that suffered the same fate. Then I began recommending Glenmorangie 10 or Glenfiddich 12 to new Scotch drinkers since they were true single malts and were only a few dollars more then Monkey Shoulder or Naked Grouse. Now that I've found Glencadam 10, I solely recommend that as it's a much more honest dram (46% ABV, fruity, no E150, non-chill filtered), is far more complex and delicious and, ironically, about the same price. Here in the states, we can find Glencadam 10, 750ml for the ridiculously low price of $40. This isn't to poop all over Monkey Shoulder, Naked Grouse, Glenmorangie or Glenfiddich. This is to say that, just like they're doing with their branding, they need to modernize and update their product to current standards to stay competitive. Slapping mediocre, watered-down, chill-filtered whisky into a shiny new box is like giving someone a Faberge egg filled with cheap chocolates. Glenmorangie has some stunning malts, like Signet and Allta, proving they can deliver top-tier product but continue to ruin their brand with a weak-as-water flagship bottle.

I'm lucky enough to remember there 70 Proof version back in the 60s and many other proofs now sadly stuck in the only Just legal 40pc mould. Aways has been a mild dram and they've made there reputation on just that. I notice for the first time in a lot of years its getting heavily discounted and so it should its been way over priced for to long and now the tides are changing hence the re vamp of the packaging etc. Slàinte

Gm10 is my very first whisky that I ever drunk... as a undegrad in London 1997. Then 3 of us pooled together to pay £15 for a bottle.

Probably the worst 10 year old SM on the market. Seems like the spirit forgot to interact with the cask. And then they filtered all the life out of what was left. All I got from it was 'mi-wadi' in a new make spirit.
