Glenn Gould says: "It's precisely that impossible mixture of naivete and sophistication that makes Beethoven the imponderable he is . . ." (GG Reader)

I love that frothy second movement- even when it moves momentarily into the minor key. What a gift! Thank you Bruce Cross.

Great to hear an alternative interpretation of this sonata by Gould - much steadier tempi - I like it. This, of course, is the mark of a genius - two different views of the same work, equally convincing.

Where is a "mark of genius" in this finger exercise? Meanwhile Beethoven must be turning around in his grave...

This is Gould at his best, and the "live" recording feel adds the right amount of life. Somewhere may be found the recordings that he made at home in Canada.

Wow, this is the first time I heard this recording and the variations certainly sounds like Gould but has “live” recording feel compared to the other recordings. It’s a refreshing take and I wish there were more radio recordings that can be released.

If only his imaginary mind could forsee how many human hearts would love him through his beloved music the years to come , he certainly had felt less lonely....If only......

Bravo, Mr. Gould! Thank you, Mr. Cross. Brilliant, as usual 💎. Could anyone tell me, please, who made this wonderful photosession of Glenn? As amazing as his music.. 💕.

Marina, I am quite certain the photos are Jock Carroll's who published a photo book titled "Glenn Gould: Some Portraits of the Artist as a Young Man"

Beethoven played as a finger exercise. Tremendous lack of musical civility. He should have limited himself to playing the music of Bach, which is sufficiently abstract to tolerate this playing.
