There is nothing better in this world than Glenn Gould reclining on a couch and twiddling his thumbs. I find this riveting.

Lois Marshall was to sing at Glenn Gould's funeral twenty years later - that thought brings tears to my eyes while listening to this

I can't believe I've never seen this before. Gould playing Metamorphosen??? fucking priceless.... I'm gobsmacked

It's nice to finally hear Gould play part of Metamorphosen, which is one of my most favorite pieces of music. I would love to see what he did in his arrangement of it. Coincidentally, Beim Schlafengehen is also one of my favorites of Strauss. Great performance of that song as well. It's nice to hear it in the more intimate context of voice with solo piano.

Had he performed the entire piece it would have been absolutely phenomenal.

Clearly, not an easy song to sing. The performer overcomes what appears to be some initial difficulties and turns in a beautiful emotional rendering of the song. I do believe you can see her eyes are wetted in that final profile close-up.

It seemed like Glenn‘s tempo was a bit slow for her - maybe didn’t have the lungs to sing it at that pace.

I love that Glenn was like a conductor while playing but he was also like Hendrix or Jimmy Page in his hand gestures. very rock star

Credit to CBS for letting Gould do whatever he wanted. No crowd pleasing here. Now he'd be confined to a minority youtube channel. Oh...

Not CBS, but rather CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
@Twentythousandlps6 ай бұрын
@@shinjj35 Exactly. CBS had L. Bernstein's educational telecasts, which were far less advanced university level than those of G. Gould. CBC was not a commercial network and CBS was, of course.

It's the Mondscheinmusik from Capriccio- a piano arrangement, perhaps/probably by GG.

Glenn Gould is not good in this repertoire, I mean when he plays the violin solo part at 4:50 it is not what is on the score. Too much rubato.
