Funny we think of Glenn Miyashiro as the most generic person imaginable. But in 50,000 years this particular blip in time in this very special place will reveal itself to be supremely unique and profound.

Then again, I have unknown relatives in Pearl City, though all of us are descendants of farmers from Fukushima. So instead of "omoshiroi" I would say "omose" for the word "hilarious" in Tohoku-ben.

I'm gonna be the one to be the party pooper but miyashiro is an okinawan name lol most people gonna say eh same ting.
@bigislander727 жыл бұрын
Are most surnames that have the suffix "shiro" Okinawan? There are a lot in Hawaii, like the owner of a farm I worked at, Yamashiro farms. Also are Okinawans considered a subset of Japanese people or separate? Their native languages are the same, correct.We all consider them Japanese here, but the distinction of being Okinawan is often brought up.
@Mooncat7477 жыл бұрын
I once had an Okinawan friend who told me that Ryukyuans were Samurais who didn't want to commit seppuku so they started their own colony on an island. He was joking of course. Okinawans (Ryukyuans) will make it clear to you that they are not Japanese. Most of the time, a surname ending with, "shiro" usually designates an Okinawan as well as surnames like, "Higa and Arakaki." There are more, but I can't think of them all.
@score2high4 жыл бұрын
@@bigislander72 Kinda late with this response, but Okinawans had their own language, Uchinaguchi. Most Okinawans will tell you they are Okinawan and not Japanese. Typically if the surname starts or ends with 'shiro' it is an Okinawan name. But it can also be replaced with 'gi' or 'gusuku' and be Okiinawan, too. So Miyagi or Miyagusuku and Miyashiro are all the same, as is Gima and Shiroma. Kind of complicated, but that's what I learned from my mother.
