The real disgrace that no one will remember is Torres muffing a simple throw in on Ohtani's double in Game 1 which allowed Ohtani to take 3rd base and eventually score the tying run to get it to extra innings. That doesn't happen and the Yankees likely win Game 1 and go home 1-1 rather than 0-2.

Gleyber Torres epitomizes lackadaisical play on the Yankees. He is the total opposite of Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts when it comes to hustling and the fundamentals of the game. Doing the little things oftentimes wins games. The Yankees found that out the hard way. It's hard to root for a guy who does not run hard on ground balls especially in the World Series. The Yankees need a Mookie Betts and/or Freddie Freeman on their team. I guarantee you the culture would change instantly by their leadership and example.

I pray Torres is gone next year. He is one of the glaring problems with his lack of hustle, low baseball IQ, and doing all the little things wrong like you pointed out like simply not hustling. The Yankees hardly ever even held him accountable his time here and that’s why he keeps getting away with it. And not hustling in the WS is awful, but we shouldn’t be surprised! His ole buddy and pal Boone doesn’t care, he’ll just pat “Gleybey” on the back. Both a player and management problem

@MrCiaranmАй бұрын
I would not re-sign him if he accepted a $1 contract. You can accept players that have great talents that can make up for their lack of hustle. For instance, G Cole did show a lack of effort on the play to first in game 5, but he was also, far and away the best pitcher on the staff. I cannot say the same for G Torres, he did not hit well, and his defense was also costly. There is no excuse for his lack of hustle, period. When I say his defense was costly, he mis-handled the throw from Soto in Game 1 that allowed Shohei the extra base. That extra base allowed Shohei to score that inning, which would eventually cause the Yanks to go into extra innings. He missed the throw because he did not put his body in front of the ball. He was too casual, and it costs the Yanks game 1. Casually fielding a throw is the same as coasting to 1st base, shouldn't be done when the stakes are high and you are paid millions.

Don't know if you can still blame the manager for players lack of hustle or fundamentals when the players are paid so much. The manager can turn red crying about hustle but when the players think they're bigger than the game or their brand is bigger than the teams, it's not like you can bench them without the media or owner digging in your ass.
