Something that gets neglected when various cook systems are demonstrated is the heat-robbing effect of the wind. Even a slight wind will rob any cooking system of heat, which wastes fuel and lengthens cooking time. This becomes even more critical for alcohol burners when the temperature drops. The true utility of the Trangia Storm Cook System is that the effective wind screen design doubles as a practical pot stand while providing adequate airflow for the alcohol burner. With the exception of the fry pay, the kettle and the pots that Trangia supplies all fit well inside the protection of the upper windscreen. However, the large pot leaves a gap between the upper windscreen and the bottom of the pot, completely outside the protection of the upper windscreen. Additionally, the pot is directly in the path of the heat-stealing wind. Think about the amount of thermal energy, supplied by that small alcohol burner needed to bring water to a boil in that large pot. To save fuel, you would need to use a large folding windscreen that covered the large pot on top. I'm not saying that this large pot will NEVER work. But it definitely pushes the boundary of practicality for the the 25 and the 27. The best solution would be for Trangia to simply introduce even larger upper and lower windscreens storm cooker systems. The pot used for the 25 is so large that a suitably-sized lower windscreen may need to accommodate two burners. P.S. I'll offer this as well. Some companies make small two-piece cross pot stand that fits directly on the Trangia in order to use it independently of the Trangia windscreens. Here's a link to one on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Acxico-Outdoor-Camping-Alcohol-included/dp/B093PSVYDQ?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A1RV7R81U3FOKU. Put this on the burner and then place a metal soup can lid on top before you set your pot or pan on the stove. It will act as a heat diverter to help prevent a hot spot in your pot or pan. Drill a few holes in the soup can lid to help with even heat distribution. I'm not sure why Trangia doesn't supply something like this already.

I gree to this, which makes the 27/25 one of the most storm proof sove/cook sets out there. If using frypan or large billy pot You really need to make a wind shield of some kind. I often use the packpack or find a better spot in the terrain. That alco burner pot stand looks nice and would be awesome to test.

My extended 25 kit is the 4.5l billy pot around the 25. I hold the billy pot closed with an Arno strap. You can find these on Amazon. I run it through the loop on the lid and through the gap on the side where the bail handle connects. Also I add the Primus 25cm stainless steel skillet to the bottom and an old household pan lid on the top. It all fits inside the canvas bag that came with the Primus pan. I will try to do a video soon.

Mattias Eriksson My father usually cooked this Chili recipe in the Fall when it first started to get cold outside. In a large pot cook 2lbs of beef, add one large diced onion, when the meat starts to brown. Add 20 oz tomatoes and 15 oz of tomato sauce from the canned food section. Then stir in 16 oz of kidney beans. The rest of the recipe is the seasoning:1/3 cup of chili powder, 1/2 tsp cumin, 2 tsp oregano powder, 2 tsp paprika, 2 tsp salt and 3 tsp minced garlic. Bring it to a boil then simmer for 40 minutes. Serve warm with shredded cheese, diced onions and sour cream.

Hi Mattias I have been watching all your trangia videos, thanks you so much for shareing your experience! I have decided on getting a 25 duossal set, looks like a great system. I really like to cook on stainless, especially searing meat is much better than non stick. I would however love to add a second non stick frying pan in the set to make fried eggs, fish or pancakes easier, but don't want to inscrease the size so the whole thing still fits in the nice EVA case. It looks like a 27 frying pan, although it's a bit wider than the pots and it would be a rather tight fit and hard to grab with the pot holder during cooking, could fit inside the windshield on the pot holders for cooking and could also be packed flipped upside down over the pots inside the windshield for storage. Could you confirm that that works? Is there still enough room for the pot holders to be flipped in and the duossal frying pan to close normally? I would also like to add the Multi Disk. I think that should still fit as well? I however don't need a kettle. Maybe an idea for another video? 😊 Take care!

The BF307258 is actually 29 cm in diameter, so quite a lot larger than the 24 cm. It also does not seem to have thick bottom, which affects heat distribution. @@Braapncamp Don't have any videos, but the Orzo was easy-a one pot dinner. For 2 people, I browned some spicy Italian sausage and diced chicken thigh, added diced onions, and deglazed the larger Trangia pot with chicken stock. Then about a half cup of tomato sauce and brought it to a boil. I tossed in a scant cup of Orzo pasta, a little more salt, reduced the heat and let it simmer until the pasta absorbed the chicken stock. I had to add more stock, and frequently had to stir to keep the mix from sticking to the bottom of the thin wall pot though. I also chopped some spinach and added that when the pasta was almost done. Then I added a handful of parmesan, mixed it into the pasta, and plated it with a large spoon of ricotta cheese in the middle. Filling, and very good! I'm working up a bunch of easy one-pot meals to help us cut down the costs of our skiing. We drive 4.5 hours one way, and stay in a hotel where we ski, so not having to dine out really helps our costs so we can ski more often-this is Alpine, but Nordic, I can just step out my back door!
