Glide: Custom Forms with Single Value → Whole Row

A Single Value column allows you to bring in a value (say, image URL) from one table into any other table. The Single Value column also allows you to bring in any WHOLE ROW (as a relation) of that table into another table. Could you use the Form Container Component in this detail screen? Would that accomplish the same thing? I tried it out and it looks like the detail screen of my single value whole row holds format. Is there a disadvantage to do it this way?

Form container should work just fine. The only time you need a custom form is if the form experience requires conditional relations or you want to dynamically display conditional values as the user completes the form.

I built it both ways and it looked the same but I think I got it. So the form container isn’t really using the working table or single value row. It’s just using it as a page for the details view. But if I do it without the container, then I can have alternate fields for the column values. I have forms now that hide or show input fields based on previous input but by conditional values, do you mean using if then else columns or similar to show different values? I just found Darren Murphy’s concept app on forms I’ll look at too. It looks like there’s some logic to prevent duplicate entries if you do it like you describe here. Is that correct, the custom form option allows for things like that? Thanks for your videos, posts, and replies by the way. Fantastic help getting me into Glide

Can you clarify, is a user trying to write to a different user’s row? Is that row in the user’s table?

Heey Robert! Im not sure if you still answer questions on older videos but I am wondering if this option can help me. I am trying to create an oppurtunity to have multiple (20+) surveys within my app. I need to be able to have the client admin submit the questions for their survey, and attach that particular survey form to a subset of the master data. think of it as door to door surveys. a volunteer gives the survey to several contacts in a neighborhood. there are up to 20 different states doing surverys at one time. and each state has a different survey form. could i somehow setup my spreadsheet so that each survey is actually on one row and is somehow linked into the form spreadsheet? I am also trying to think through the most efficient way for the client to submit their new survey questions to me.

Jesus, all that just to show information, you can't automatize anything, glide is just to show information in a cool "app" way, you can't make formulas on the cells, you can't even use sum formulas the right way anyone that use sheets do, you can't do procv formulas... This is just dumb...

You can do really complex formulas in Glide using math columns, excel columns or JavaScript columns. Happy to show you if you’d like.
