As someone who started as a Glider Guider (At about the same age, back when we had to worry about Pterodactyls), I've always insisted that starting out in sailplanes makes you a better pilot. Your first takeoff is a formation takeoff, and your first landing is a deadstick landing. Hope things are going well.
