One thing i want to mention, the eventualities. The instructors right that when the wing starts dragging you should be released, but DO NOT wait until the wing starts to drag the whole glider to one side. By the time that happens its too late. What should be taught is that if a wing drops and your unable to stop that wing from further going down, release immediately. Now i get that it could seem that you wouldve released for no reason because of what ive said but its better to release when you can recover than not releasing and then being unable to recover, causing serious injury and/or damage.

What is the trim used for ?
@jbmg407 ай бұрын
Elevator or pitch trim controls the hands-off attitude of the glider in terms of nose up or nose down. In a glider this controls the speed, with resulting effects on glide angle, controllability etc. It can be achieved mechanically by spring force assisting the pilot’s control stick into a certain position, or aerodynamically by adjusting a trim tab - a small extra control surface e on the elevator. There’s no real change to the overall flight characteristics caused by the trim alone, however the effect of moving the neutral position relative to the feedback provided by the control stick is substantial. Without using trim flying faster means constantly applying forward stick pressure, and vice versa. Aside from avoiding fatigue and inconsistency, using trim arguably also allows more precise use of the controls, as blending pitch and roll together is a touch harder to do with precision. Trim makes piloting easier and more precise. Finally, it’s worth remembering that in a sailplane the pilot may frequently need to change between climbing (circling in a thermal for example) at low speed and cruising at higher speed to the next available source of lift. This affects the ergonomics of glider trim design- powered aircraft use precise but slow to actuate trim wheels, where sailplanes typically have a simple lever which can be trimmed across a wide speed range instantaneously, albeit requiring a more deft touch to be precise.

@@jbmg40 thank you so much for the response honestly!! I’ve recently just started training on my second flight was up today for 36mons and I was introduced to the trim but just wanted to make sure I can fully understand it from another perspective which I’m very much appreciative of you. Worth a new subscriber!!
