Glissando - How To Play and Use on Piano
• Glissando - How To Pla...
Take some piano lessons from Scott Houston “The Piano Guy.” In this video, Scott shows you how to play a glissando on a piano or keyboard.
Scott starts by defining a glissando. A glissando occurs when you play a continuous slide upward or downward between at least two notes. Most of the time you will play all of the notes on your instrument by running up or down. Playing a glissando can be painful, so Scott offers four tips to accomplish it with as little pain as possible:
Using a vertical hand position that is perpendicular to the keys so that you are using your fingernails, using your thumb instead of using all your fingers, using 2 fingers with your index finger being slightly down further than your middle finger and drag upwards, and using 2 fingers with an interval of space between them as you run down the keys.
Lastly, Scott tells you when and why to play a glissando. A glissando can be used as a great intro to a tune, to break the current mood of the tune, or to end a tune.
Obviously, Scott plays and demonstrates all these examples of playing a glissando, so that you can add to your bag of tricks.
Houston’s life goal is to help you learn to play piano through piano lessons that you can take anywhere and at any time to get you started having some fun at a piano or keyboard as quickly as possible.
