[Glitch Explanation] Twilight Princess - Back in Time

Here is a video detailing the Back in Time glitch in Twilight Princess
Hopefully this helps you understand the trick better!
EDIT: It seems as though the first evidence of this glitch's existence was from YautjaElder back on January 14, 2007, so as far as we can tell, that is when the glitch was discovered. Might not be accurate, but that's all we can find. Shoutouts to ppltoast for bringing my attention to this.

I used to have fun playing with this back when. Good times! The method I used to trigger it back in Arbiter's Grounds by using the sinkhole, when all you see is link's finger then reset. it had a good success rate, even if you had to do it up to 10 times. The best part is the fact it's so close to the entrance so each try doesn't take too long to get to

I saw someone speedrunning the game on Wii(it's rare but people do, do it) and they jump of the bridge at the begining of the game and prefectly executed the glitch, I tried the same thing and got it first try that way.

1:31 There's a visual indicator for voiding out in sand that you can use to get it fairly consistently for Wii. You want to do the reset at around the time when the sand level reaches Link's fingers that aren't covered by his glove (we're lucky he's got fingerless gloves to have this visual indicator). . As for the blind jump reset which would be more useful in a speedrun, etc... well there's not much that I know of in terms of setups, but I've had decent results trying to time the reset at the highest point of Link's jump.

1:31 I actually managed to use the GameCube setup for the Wii version. First, rather than dropping off the right side of the bridge, you drop off of the left because the Wii version is flipped. Then in quick succession, press A and then 1. After that, press B twice and quickly hit the home button, and select the reset prompt that appears. That should work. Also, I did this using a Wii U, but I'm using a copy of the Wii version. Not sure if that affects anything tho Edit: And now that I've written the comment, it's not working. Guess it's just not as consistent here

For the wii version you have to go on the third plank of the bridge and look with first person view the left of the letter « c » have to be near the spade and then roll to jump and when the spade points to link’s belt just reset and this is it you did it

Man this was a great video. You very clearly explained everything I was hoping to find out about this glitch and did so in a very organized way. You also did it pretty quickly and didn't bother me with a superfluous introduction. Thank you.

I remember trying this glitch on the Wii version back in 2014 and actually succeeding at doing the glitch. I went into the Arbiter's Grounds and jumped into the quicksand. It took me a couple tries, but after it actually worked. I got to the part where Link was stuck on the bridge during the fight with king bulblin, and going into kakariko village in the twilight as a human. I ended up accidentally saving my file, and as a result of that, I lost all my progress (I was very far into the game and worked so hard at completing the dungeons/temples). I ended up being stuck in Faron Woods. I regretted doing that glitch because I was really upset at the fact that I lost all my progress.

It's interesting that on Wii when in Kakorecko Village you can hear Midna speak through the Wii remote when She wants you to climb even though you don't have an icon for her. (pushing up on the Wii Remote at this point does nothing) I assume you don't know how to clip through the gates in Kakorecko Village? Also, they are no way to force Link to turn into a wolf or collect the bugs as a human? Be really neat to start the game from here(just to see what happens).

If you ride eponia when you first arrive in Kakorecko Village , you can jump the gate. Then you get off immediately and can walk to the next section of the provice. If you try and goto to Lanayru you will hit a Minda trigger(don't know if you can avoid this) and be told you can't leave the tillight relm(next one) so easily. You will then start autowalking and get stuck on the 'door' which is apprantly solid for some odd reason. They is nowhere else you can go from that section of Hryrule feild. If you go back the previus screen, the gate will be invisible.

What's the two complex applications of this glitch?

There's an extension called Back in Time Equipped that let's you basically warp any file into the King Bulblin 1 fight, and the other one is called Early Monkeys, which uses that warp to set some temporary flags in the game's memory that correspond with the number of monkeys you have saved in Forest Temple.

How do you reset though? I play on the Wii U, but on the Wii menu, so I play the Wii version of this game, do I just hit the home button then hit restart on that screen? Like on the normal Wii version?

Yes, you can just press the home button and hit reset on that menu and it'll work, even if you're playing the Wii version on Wii U.
