I will be starting my sophomore year this September and will be taking the Global History and Geography Regents exam in June 2025. I have a question about the enduring issue essay. Previously, thematic essays had a guideline that discouraged using U.S.-specific topics to maintain a global perspective. With the shift to enduring issue essays, I’m uncertain if there are similar restrictions on including U.S.-based issues. Could you please clarify if it’s permissible to write about enduring issues that occurred within the United States? Thank you for your time and for the valuable resources you provide! (UPDATE: i realized that it isn’t like thematic essay, it’s like a DBQ essay but more of identifying the Enduring Issue)

Hello! You can absolutely use U.S. history to provide outside information for a document or to provide an additional example of people behind affected by an enduring issue. However, you must be sure to use three out of the five documents given to you, and these will not be about U.S. history.
