The batteries need rare earth metals. that are mined in devastating ways, and the batteries are almost indisposable,they're so toxic. The UK is smaller....you don't have to go more than 100 miles to go just about everywhere. I've a feeling one day some engineer is going to sit down and calculate the environmental cost of electric cars and it will be like biofuels....the construction and cost of producing that much electricity will be much more damaging than just putting gas into a tank.

It's just that biofuels were going to be the way to go for years...then one day someone sat down and calculated how much oil and gas it took to raise crops, transport and convert them, vs how much energy you got from them.
