Hundreds of thousands of Air Canada passengers across the country are bracing for a looming pilot's strike. Flights could be impacted this weekend if a deal isn't reached, and negotiations are dead-locked. Economists warn a shutdown could cost the Canadian economy more than $90 million each day. Business leaders are calling on Ottawa to intervene, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he's staying out of it. Touria Izri has more.

Take note that this vid title is straight from corporate media's playbook. Create fear and blame the strikers, not the company. Note that the title does not say "Insufficient pilot pay could cost economy $90M per day" (easy solution? Pay pilots what they deserve and stop the strike).

Yes and No, You are right that the media is twisting the words and creating fear. However, they're not wrong about one thing and that's the economy getting damaged. The air industry in Canada is an Oligopoly (Another words it’s controlled by two big sellers) This destroys business, Potential purchasing from consumers, a unique/efficient transportation becomes slower and waists opportunity costs. And lastly, people will lose money. The workers at Air Canada other then pilots aren’t getting paid, Air Canada loses money and resources which damages the economy only if the industry is controlled by that one company or shared between 2. However if it was a free economy it wouldn’t do anything at all, as the “invisible hand” is punishing companies/business for waiting money, and resources. Hope this helps

I agree about corporate media, but the pilots were offered 30% raise. I'm sorry, I've been working 19 years to have a 28 percent raise. You know the airline will just pass this on to the consumer and then nobody will fly, as it's already very expensive. So then the airline has to get rid of some pilots and this is how it works. 30% raise in one shot does not come very often I'm sorry. We are in a recession.

@@thevision3502Your info is erroneous. A few do, most don’t. Actually a third of the pilots make under 70K and a quarter of the pilots have a second job in order to make ends meet. That is after decades of training and experience. A bus driver for Air Canada starts at 74K while a Boeing 777 pilot starts at 58K. If all pilots made over 200K/year we wouldn’t be in this situation I can assure you 😂.

What about the people working in small businesses of 5-15 people. My wife started with $7.50 Per Hour 20 years ago when minimum wage was $6.75 and today she just get $18 per hour now minimum wage $17.50 .she is an excellent worker. Owner always threatens by replacing them with students. Will the Government or any organization will come forward to help them. 20 years experience, multi task person, highly intelligent and motivated still not able to make both ends meet. Is it not a great injustice with her. Still having close to minimum wages. Always beg for raise. Never gets every year. Raise is 50 cents that after begging so many times.

China increases its carbon production by more than Canadas total carbon each year. Chinas carbon does not stay in China

Airline tickets are expensive enough, just what is the difference in the wages between their U.S. counterparts not that much is my guess. Don't tell me that pilots in Canada are not receiving great wages already. I think Trudeau is doing the right thing by staying out of it, or else what is the purpose of having a Union in the first place if the Government is going to step in every time a strike action is taken.

Newly trained Pilots start at $55 K a year. 20 yr. Pilots get $175 K a Year. In the USA Double that as an example.

How do you think europeans who are much more productive and have real time to spend on life and family and friends got their rights? The argument that the AC pilot’s use, all other workers around the world could use but, especially here in Canada. The sweat and toil of Canadian worker’s, is no less valuable, than that of the workforce anywhere else in the U.S, or the world for that matter. Our toil, our sweat , is equal to anyone else’s . The valuation is skewed, to whose benefit ? The discount, besides being already being built in to the value of the Canadian dollar ( or devalue ) . Leaves the worker’s here, always at a loss. If we import a vast majority of the goods that we import, and those goods aren’t discounted for us , as the good’s we manufacture and export to other market’s. The scale’s are unbalanced. The even goes for interprovincial labor. The minimum wage in one province versus another. One person’s sweat and toil , versus another person’s. Race, gender all come into play how divided and unequal things are. Artificial intelligence ? Convenient stupidity ? 🇨🇦✌🏼🇨🇦✌🏼🇨🇦🤨

Canada's pandemic response, including following health measures as well as getting vaccinated, was successful based on the only measure that counts: deaths. US deaths from COVID-19: over 1.1 million. Canadian deaths from COVID-19: over 55,000.
