Dr. Brier's lectures ran on television when I was younger, and because of him, I fell in love with ancient Egypt. In his easy style, Brier discusses the Egyptians as though they are his neighbors--his knowledge of what is known about this ancient culture is surprisingly intimate and always engaging. If I had had the pleasure of having an instructor like Prof. Brier, with his knowledge, passion, sense of purpose and personality, when I was in college, I would have graduated with a degree in Egyptology! Glad to see you still doing what you love for an audience who obviously loves you in return!

I have been a fan of Dr Brier for years and enjoy listening to anything he does on Egypt. I have loved it since I was a young girl and always wanted to visit but never had the chance. I am now in my mid 70's and do not travel much but being able to see and hear great lectures like these are fantastic. Thank you.. I am grateful for modern technology so that we can do this from our home and when it is available. Thank you so much. Great job Dr Brier.

42:20 HA coward! Delightful. It's good to see Bob Brier is still active in the field. I have seen many of his lectures during my study at University of Memphis.

i have his audio book that he narrates. Such infectious enthusiasm !. Wonderful . Wish people would read (listen) to him before they disappear down the "ancient astronauts" rabbit hole of nonsense.

Egypt was never wiped out by nature or another group, and it's technology didn't essentialy change in 3000 years. Those are the root reasons why it lasted. It's spirituality housed in it's own religion, was the most important aim of the whole society. When a societies "religon" is the most important aim, it's emotionally well. The next step down is king/goverment, then business and the worst of business is when large corporations which have the rights of individuals, but non of the responsibilites (as our current society is based). That's why we have all this so called "body art" and so many have "gone inside" with Lsd, magic musrooms, marijauna, peyote. What we did to the natives here, we're doing to ourselves. A clue is that the older the building, the rounder (of the heart). All is rectangle now (of the mind). The Pysche likes curves, the brain likes squares. Think about all the blockheads in charge and no Spritual leaders in charge. The Spiritual ones don't have ideologies, but are lyrical.

Yet The Spiritual Tradition of The Builders of The Pyramids is no where to be found within The Land that is called "Egypt" nowadays.

I just finished his book on ancient Egypt. I enjoyed the historical value offered; but despised the inherently racist and obviously Eurocentric views and assumptions about BLACK CULTURE..derived from his pure speculation on BLACK CULTURE. On a score of 1-10. I have to give him a 5 at least for effort. For the life of me ..I can’t figure out how euros can’t figure out WHY ..euros had no literature or megalithic structures BEFORE encountering AFRICANS. I will solve that right here and now. It’s because THEY HAD NO INSTITUTIONS..until they were taken in BY BLACK PEOPLE! BLACKS had a 5000 year band on euros in EGYPT, only lifted to allow them into military reserves to fight the Persians. All of what was Greece and Rome ..in pre history belonged to BLACKS. EGYPT was the gateway to civilization for ALL non blacks. Period!! All the Greeks did was claim what the Africans accomplished over the 10.000 years prior to them coming into civi. The ROMANS built on this as well. One of my favorite BLACK scholars ..even denies the existence of a Aristotle and a Socrates; which I can easily see that being the case..with the known history of the lies told by euros. Herodotus himself SAID the Egyptians and everyone else in AFRICA was black; yet this author seems to think he knew better. 😑. Typically European.

There's literally historical tangible evidence that Ancient Egypt was a melting pot of cultures and races. One of the only times I ever heard Bob Brier mention anything about race in Egypt was purely to clarify on Cleopatra's ethnicity because she was Greek. It was (and is) a very common misconception that she was black, but Cleopatra comes from the Ptolemaic Era of rule which was a direct line of Greek rulers occupying Egypt until the end of that Era with the death of Cleopatra. Depending on the Kingdom and timeline you're referring to, there were many different colors of people in Egypt throughout it's history.

@@Kygon007 Historical tangible evidence?? Exactly what historical tangible evidence?

There was clearly a period of Nubian rulers. No attempt to deny that. But ancient Egyptians were NOT BLACK. Why push your own racism on historical fact?
