Nice design, but does the fabric have to be a stretch fabric. I have a lot of plain cotton fabrics that have a slight stretch across the grain but not on the grain. Could I use one of these to make this skirt? I haven't really made a fitted skirt before now as my daughter prefers a-line designs but this one is so unusual I would like to try it.

Oops, I meant to ask you, how you finish the top of the skirt. Do you make a waistband or do you just attach the lining to the outer fabric using 1cm seam allowance? What is your favorite method for a beautiful skirt like this?
