But either way, they should have given more detailed info on what it does, who it affects and what governments of the worlds responses have been.. i.e lockdowns etc. They should have told them how to protect themselves, such as distancing and providing hand sanitisers. They made it sound like it was the end of the world with how it was announced also. The germans on the other hand almost played it down too much, and made it sound less serious, however still provided more info

I was in US Army Basic Combat Training from January to March. I had very minimal contact with the outside world. I had no idea what covid-19 was until the day before Family Day. The night before Family Day, every trainee was excited and cleaning everything to impress their families. Then that night, our Drill Sergeants announced that Family Day is cancelled. We were only allowed to see our families on Graduation Day for 90 minutes. Almost everyone was depressed and crying. It was awful.

I remember back before Covid-19 was a pandemic there was this lady in the comment section of a video about Milan cancelling fashion week or something like that asking if it was safe to travel to Italy. Others warned her to be extra cautious if she was gonna travel. Meanwhile I shared a story to her how the first Covid-19 fatality outside China happened. A few hours later she replied to me saying she had her flight cancelled. Sometimes I just think about that. What if I didn't make her slightly paranoid with the story I told her? What if she didn't listen to our warnings? She could've went to Italy and got infected, or worse. For once I was glad that I was the type to read comments and reply whenever I could. I felt like I helped out from the other side of the world, and that feeling is kinda awesome tbh.

I know if I was there and someone causally dropped 'oh by the way there's a global pandemic' I'd be having visions of the zombie apocalypse where everyone is dying.
